  1. Hi there guys, Just wondering if my 15 yr old son can work part time whilst we are here in Vic on a 457 visa? I can't seem to find any info on this, thanks
  2. Hi tracy, sorry its taken me so long to respond. We have been quite busy in our big move over here. have you arrived yet? We have been here for just over 3 weeks now, and so far things are going well. We needed to find a rental in the first week as we only had one weeks accommodation in a hotel in geelong. We found one in leopold and have been here two weeks now. Leopold is great and I have enrolled my 8 year old daughter in leopold primary. She loves it. However my husband works in belmont, and my 14 year old son goes to oberon high school which is fantastic, so I think after our 12 month lease is up we will move over that way. We just couldn't secure a rental there in time. We are happy for now though. Let us know how you are doing and we could perhaps meet up for coffee when you're settled, Claire
  3. Hi there Tracyg, we too will be arriving in Geelong soon, 28th September. We have two children so I am also interested in schools, areas to live etc. My husband has a job in Belmont, and I will be looking for work when I get there. I just wanted to say good luck and hope everything goes well
  4. Hi everyone, been following this thread for a few weeks so just wanted to introduce ourselves. Myself, my husband to be (getting married in 3 weeks) and two children are relocating to Geelong, Victoria. Our MA lodged our 457 application on the 25/6 and we are still waiting, as most of you are too I see. Application is still saying 'processing commenced' so I guess we'll be waiting a while longer yet! Is it right that the applications have to be processed within 2 months? Good luck to everyone still waiting, hopefully it won't be too much longer
  5. Thanks for your reply. My OH has emailed the employer to ask if they are willing to sponsor him so fingers crossed they will otherwise, like you say, the job may not be there by the time he gets his visa! Don't think we were really ready for a job offer so quickly, we were just testing the water by sending his CV! We should have really researched beforehand, but then I guess the job may have been taken then. Thanks for the advice
  6. Hi all. I'm new to the forum, and would really appreciate some advice. My partner, myself and our 2 children want to make the move to australia. We've looked at different places to live and decided that we like Bunbury WA so my partner, who has a Mercedes specialist garage in England at the moment, sent his CV to the local dealership there. The manager there asked him to call for a chat as they do have a position available and it seems that he is keen for my OH to go over and work for them as he has he experience that they need. He hasn't given him an official job offer but he does want him. It has been left now for my OH to sort a visa and get over there. So, I have been looking at the different options and we think that the 189 visa is the right route but not 100% sure. Its all a bit confusing???? My OH mentioned the 457 visa to his potential employer but he wasn't familiar with anything. They have never sponsored anyone before, or employed anyone from overseas. Really don't know where to begin, and if anyone could advise me I'd be very grateful!! Thanks, Claire
