  1. We're actually going through the process at the mo of trying to find sponsorship and not having much luck. We're finding the fact my hubby wasn't dealership trained a real set back which is a nightmare. He was trained by the army but carries all the civilian qualifications. Good luck in your search, hope you have better luck than us
  2. Hey guys, My hubby is a diesel mechanic and we are trying to find a sponsor (I know its more difficult at the moment but worth a try) and hubby is going to start phoning around companies in the next few days...my questions are a) has anyone done this and were you successful? b) who should he speak to (HR, Manager etc?!) c) does anyone know of any companies (preferably QLD, but willing to try anywhere), who might be hiring? thanks x
  3. might be worth looking on the facebook group, loads on there who have transfered, and they are always offering each other help https://www.facebook.com/groups/112038224332/?fref=ts
  4. That sound promising, we spoke to Tony last year and he was so helpful. We decided to make the decision to use a different company (for no particular reason) and it has turned into a nightmare. Now thinking about getting back in touch with Tony to see if he can help so is great to see someone who has had such a good experience with him!
  5. We've used them in the past (not for aus, not there yet but when we moved from germany to uk) all I will say is I honestly wouldnt use them again even if someone paid us! The packers were rude, took everything we asked them to leave out (had put it all aside out of the way!) including our daughters baby powder, and left stuff that they were supposed to pack. Had to throw so much away as we couldnt fit it all in the car! We have moved alot in the past with hubby being army and these were by far the worst! Guess they are nicknamed fast and nasty for a reason!
  6. I have contacted OBI now and am hoping for a response soon!
  7. This has turned into an absolute nightmare to be honest, everything seemed to be going so well...whats worse is they have all our documentation. Constantly checking emails these days in some sort of hope
  8. We have had the same reply from vetassess aswell. Have contacted DUP to see if we can get the file number (just incase vetassess have got confused) but no reply from them. Hoping that it is just a misunderstanding but finding it very very unlikely at this stage. Absolute nightmare.
  9. Likewise lillystar26, feel like a complete wreck at the moment. Trying to figure out where to go from here and trying to stay positive but not working very well!
  10. is it ok to post the link on here or shall i pm it? unsure on the rules!
  11. We're were approached on here also, feeling a bit lost now. Cant get any reply from Downunder placements after various emails sent. We contacted OBI last week, got a reply yesterday stating that no promises were made (we are aware of this) but also stating that we should contact vetassess in regards to our certificates, funny thing though, we havent once mentioned vetassess to OBI so cant understand why they are making comments in regards to this?!
  12. We've had no reply from OBI whatsoever (emailed over a week ago) and also nothing from downunder placements either.
  13. Hogg 2007 - My husband is a diesel mechanic We're trying to remain positive, hoping that all will work out for us but getting harder, that's for sure!
  14. Sorry to hear about your hubby being made redundant, last thing you need at a time like this is added stress Im hoping it will be sorted for august, we were initially told we would be out there feb/march time (can get early release from work) but thankfully no leaving date is set in stone until august so we do have these extra few months. Have just about everything crossed that it does work out, obviously not just for us (having read this)...hoping it works out for everyone! It is colin we have been speaking to, he has always seemed very on the ball and up until last few weeks has been very swift with any replies to questions we have had. He has mentioned hastings deering and golding and did say he was in talks with another but no names were specified! angie
  15. We (husband and I) have been talking and said If we don't hear anything more promising by month end we are going to start having to explore our other options and literally apply anywhere and everywhere. Have been looking online this morning to see whats out there. Makes things more difficult as living in germany at the moment. As I said am really hoping he comes through for us as we'll be in quite a serious position if he doesnt
  16. We're hoping to be Brisbane area same as you, he said this shouldn't be a problem. Am starting to get nervous now though as we were originally told we would know more by now. Hoping they do come through because as of august my hubby is out of a job and we will have nowhere to live (he's military so once job has finished, we lose the house). Not getting very much sleep at the moment due to worry! angie
  17. Hi guys, yeah our VETASSESS has been finalised, and the certs are on the way. We were told the other day there are a few job openings and to expect interviews in the next 2 weeks. We've not been told to apply for our jobs at all, nor have we been asked for an admin fee.
  18. Hi guys, We have done the same as you guys have through DownUnder Placements, we have started the process in October 2012, sent off for VETASSESS beginning of Nov, not heard anything from these guys for the past week, he's always been very quick to reply in the past. We're hoping everything is ok! we were hoping to be going in march!
  19. Thank you for your pm, will get my husband to email you his cv once he is home from work! :-)
  20. Hi all, only my second post on here but wondering if anyone can help? My husband is currently in his last year with the army and once he is out, we are hoping to come over to Australia on a 457 visa (if we can get a sponsor). He is a diesel mechanic with 7 years experience and all qualifications etc and can work on most vehicles (Small or Large). We have spoken to a migration manager who quoted £3500 to help with everything from visas to finding a job but we are now wondering if we could do it ourselves. My main question is, how difficult is it to get a job before being in the country and where do you look for jobs etc?! sorry if its alot of rambling or doesnt make sense, Feeling slightly lost with it all!! thanks in advance!
