  1. Hi All, I hope you can help me here & I apologise if the question has been asked before; I've searched but couldn't find a similar post. Background: I have been offered a job via the TSS 482 visa route and so far the package looks good and I am keen to pursue this. However I need to make sure the route works out for myself and the family in the long term. Visa Issue: In time, we would want to look to transfer to being PR but will I be eligible for this due to my age?? I am currently 42 and could be in Aus by autumn, so on my understanding of this we could be eligible for an Employer Nominated 186 visa after 3 years, I will therefore be 45 at this point. The relevant webpage on the homeaffairs website does state: Usually, you must be under 45 years of age when you apply. You are exempt from this criterion if any of the following applies to you: as a subclass 457 or TSS visa holder, you have been working in the nominated occupation for the nominating employer for at least the last 3 years, and your earnings were at least as much as the Fair Work High Income Threshold for each year of that period From this, I therefore assume that I would be ok to apply for PR in 3 years age 45, but am I correct in this? Thanks for your time, GO.
  2. Hi, back in 2014, I applied to have my uk teaching qualifications recognised in QLD, but was told that my PGCE was not recognised (it was SCITT). So I could either do a yr training in Oz or submit a portfolio relating to The Australian Teachers Professional Standards. At that point, we were just on a two yr posting in Cairns and it would have been a huge hassle getting everything sorted for the time scale. Now we want to return to Oz and QLD if possible. Has anyone had to create a document like this? If so, was it reasonably ok to put together? (I know that it is a requirement for prof dev in some states). I’m a bit worried about data protection laws here in the uk which have just changed and become very strict. We are happy to go rural for a while, in fact we are happy to go anywhere within reason. Does Cairns count as rural/remote? Would love to go back. Primary school teacher btw. Thank you for any advice in advance. I have already resubmitted my application form to the QCT, should I do AITSL at the same time? Goodness, so many questions. Sorry! [emoji4]
  3. Hi, my husband and I are coming over to Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns on Holiday next month; we are looking with a view to moving over in the next couple of yrs. I'm a primary teacher with 17 yrs experience. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what teaching is like in Oz re work life balance, and how it fits with having children. We would love to meet up with anyone for a coffee to get some great first hand information. Is it easy enough to get qualifications registered? Anything I need to be aware of? Thanks J Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
  4. Thanks everybody for the help. it's good to know this info and has been a help - more shopping is required in the UK before we go! We have looked on the site, and didn't find answers - we aren't the most forum savvy peeps in the world, hence the post. Apologies if this has frustrated some, may try harder next time...
  5. Hi, We are moving to Queensland in 4 weeks time. Our packers are coming to take all our things in 3 weeks. Does anyone have any hints and tips as to what we should bring LOADS of and stock up on before we leave? What kinds of things are pricey over there and what is reasonable (household things)? Grateful for any advice. Thank you x
