  10. Yes I'm getting the impression that uk health funds give you more bang for your buck.thankyou so much for replying it's been very helpful pam
  11. Thanks for that, very reassuring to know. How did you find prices between uk and oz.
  12. Thanks for that. I talked to bupa today and they said anyone who has had private health insurance in oz gets whats called a continuity certificate that allows them to continue their private health cover and apparently it applies across all private health. I just want make sure they do cover existing health conditions.
  13. Hi has anybody any experience with this. I have had private health insurance for many years in oz but I wonder if it can be transferred to uk when I move there. I have a health condition that was dx here in oz and requires specialist supervision but not hospital stays etc. many thanks
  14. Excellent advice I will look into doing that. Thanks very much pam
  15. Hi everyone yes excellent responses. I wonder if anyone knows of a financial advisor I could see . I want to go back to Uk next year. I will be 61. I am selling up here and then buying a smaller cheaper house in UK.I am entitled to a small Nhs pension and I think part uk pension ,maybe even a bit of oz pension. I worked 33 years here full time and 12 years in uk. But not sure of best way to manage it all. Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. many thanks Pam
  16. Hi my knowledge I isn't great but there was a reciprocal agreement between uk and Australia till 2001.. My understanding is years worked in Oz from age 19 till 2001 allows you to be eligible for some state pension when you turn the appropriate age. The rest would be made up by Australian pension . Sorry don't know about the disability side of it but I think it will be tough to get entitlements
  17. Thanks for that very good to hear.i will certainly explore it more when I am there pam
  18. Thankyou both for responding its certainly food for thought.i will investigate bupa too. I have had private health insurance here for years and still pay a fortune so I am certainly used to paying for health.i am worried about post code lottery issue as I will be returning to north of Uk and not impressed listening to my relatives stories.
  19. Yes thanks for that. Think I will explore bupa .cheers
  20. Hi I have always had private health insurance here(33 years) but I want to return to uk next year and wondered if anyone knows how it compares. Many thanks
  21. I would say doctors both GP and Psychiatrists heavily influenced by drug companies. Also reduction in stigma around seeking help. Defo some over prescribing too but also genuine preparedness to seek help rather than drunk drug etc etc. complex issue. I would think definitely a first world one too!
  22. Thanks very much for that, did you get a few quotes or just the one from them. Many thanks for your response cheers pam
  23. Thanks for that, love reading your blog by the way. You sound very settled and happy there
  24. Hi everyone after 31 years in Perth I have decided to move to Hobart,I fell in love with it. Any advice re best way to move furniture etc. I'm going to fly my pets. thanks in advance.
  25. Interesting,I have been here 33 years and I'm now 60 I too am thinking seriously about moving back to uk as Oz has changed a lot in many ways.advanced capitalism with little social conscience. Mind you it does seem as though UK is trying to do the same.
