  1. Hi Perthbum are you saying house prices haven't risen in the UK ?
  2. I don't think Australia is better, I'm not one of these people who thinks move away and problems are solved. I'm coming on a w.h.v to give me an idea of the country etc. Although I'm also aware been on a w.h.v is far different to an Australian citizen. I've always wanted to visit Australia and yes if I like it may take it further. I know people who have moved over there and both loved it and hated it. One person I knew has recently returned after being there for 15 years and now says there going back because the UK isn't what they thought it was. I do agree each to their own and I wasn't saying to stay in Australia as it's a better country , I just suggested it may be worth a holiday trip to see if he/they like the UK. Over the last 10 years here wages have been going down because to many people willing to fill the same job everybody wants more unpaid overtime etc so I feel now is time to try something different . After all I always have the UK to come back to should I not like it
  3. I haven't read all the post however I agree waiting 3 years is far to long to wait to move as your daughter would be entering a school knowing no other child. Depending how confident she is could leave her open to feeling alone. Apart from that if you can wait 3 years I assume you're not unhappy. I've not left the UK although heading to Australia soon. Unfortunately over the last seven years the UK has changed massively. For example food and house prices are far out of control and everybody I've spoke to say there better off in Australia, although I'm guessing it's not just the cost of living over there. The other thing to bare in mind is you remember the UK when you was there, do you want to come back because you have good memories because that's what they are memories. All the people you knew would be different the shops pubs etc closed, moved or closed down. A lot think the grass is always greener somewhere else but often this is not the case. Could you not come to the UK on a holiday before making such a big choice
  4. Does it not state on your visa the valid dates ?, Id as that if you arrive say 00:01 on the 13/06/2012 then you have untill 23:59 on the 13/06/2013 as that is a year. I doubt you would get in any trouble, if you was questioned and you say to them..... if i was born on the 13 i wont become a yaer old on the 12 ? would i lol. Im sure you would have a good argument .
  5. I will be taking a sleeping bag
  6. I have no experince on australia, I have also wanted to come over since i was a child, don't know why it is one of them things. I am under no doubt that the grass is not always greener and there will be problems, i mean come on problems are caused by people and goverment which where ever you go will be. When i say i believe the uk to be a dieing country i mean it like we have no industrial well very little left in this country, everything is imported so once our money runs out and importing goods are not cost effective anymore where will we be left ?, starting again ? thats my look anyway. The other point i say try another state if that is an option is because i know reading on here one part of Australia is such a different way of life to another. That mixed with the feeling in the back of the op's mind (otherwise this post wouldn't be on here) if they didn't give it ago would the regret it for the rest of their life ?. Life is short you need to do what makes you happy the question is, it better to regret the things you never tried or regret the things that didn't work out
  7. Im hoping to be out there september time im going to be on a w.h.v
  8. Thank you tickled pink sounds great, Was you too travelling alone or as part of a group ?. Did you find camper being a good way to travel meaning was it comfy to living in with insects and heat etc. (im far from a moaner) but know sometimes heat can be a killer. Do you wish you had traveled more of your travels by camper ?. How long have you lived in australia for now then was it a case you never returned from you whv ?
  9. Im hoping to head off september time but still havent decided 100%. I will more then likely do the east coast, How about yourself ?. I can see lots of positives on it espesicaly as i want to do the 3 months farming work so would be able to set up where the work is
  10. If in doubt i would try another state if that is an option to you, Never forget the reason you left the UK was because you were unhappy ?. If you return back to the UK without giving another state a go would you be sitting in on one of the many rainy nights thinking what if ?. To me i believe the uk to be a dieing country and personally can't see a future here where Oz is just begining. But what ever you desicisson hope you all the best.
  11. If you decide the house share theres alot on gumtree.com.au hope you manage to sort it what ever you choose
  12. have you tried realestate.com.au ?
  13. I dont know myself, i havent travled yet. My mate has traveled there and is currently living in perth so can ask him tomoz for you to see if he can suggest somewhere. I can understand you wanting to book up a few weeks but if you get there and hate it your stuck as wont be able to get a refund. speaking with people there is always plenty of places to stay without booking. What sort of prices are you getting per night and does it get cheaper if you book week or longer
  14. I'm hoping to be in cairns around september time to glad to hear theres lots of work about . Have you hit darwin yet as people suggest theres alot of work there september time too ?
  15. Yes its not worth just looking at price. i would also consider finding the work first then a hostel to suit. The msin thing is going to be work ? and social ?. I look at it as where theres work there will be people = social so your half way there. Maybe just book 1 or 2 nights in a cheap place to get over your jetlag then go from there.
  16. When i was looking at property the average cheapest places were $425-$450 a week that was perth. I'm pretty sure that sydney is one of the most expensive places to live. Maybe consider a house share with ensuite if you dont like to share bathroom etc.
  17. Hey everybody, hope your all having fun planing and doing your travels. Has anybody thought of or brought a campervan to travel australia or is it best to just do hostels or house shares etc. I'm going to be traveling alone so some parts of me thinks hostels etc as maybe better to meet people. Would it be cost effective to maybe get a bigger camper then needed and share rides with other people to keep cost down ? Any advise or pointers would be great, hope to hear from you all soon :xmas23:
  18. Wow soo exciting . have you made plans on where your going/doing ect ?
  19. Good luck abz time will soon creep up so quick . Where you heading off to im hoping to go in August but still unsure of when and where yet. Do you have any plans ?
  20. thanks. my first plan was to head to perth and spend time there. now im thinking head to darwin travel the east coast and finish off in perth as herd good things about it. I want to spend a bit of time in vic and also perth as know people there. So was thinking leave that untill last as if i get my 2nd year whv and want to settle over there i will already have contacts (if that makes any sence).
  21. Thanks britChick you know your stuff very helpful person. I thought the uk lacked people like you now days lol. Where would you recommend i start my travelling off seeing as you've been there seen it and going back lol.
  22. Thanks stacey that is my plan i really want to do the regional work first for 2 reasons, first as i will be on my own and think it would be best way to meet people and second would be to get it out the way then im open to enjoy myself. Yer i hear NT has alot of the type of work for the 2nd year visa and that it would be hot in august/september. I also hear its the aussie winter about then so i need to be careful
  23. Thanks . im not too sure where i want to start off, Thats the main question im asking really. I want to plan my route to the work season in each place. my first plan was head to perth, but looking and reading on here it looks like people head to the n.t darwin etc and travel the east cost. I'm also trying to plan so i get the best of each season in each place, i would dread to follow the winter around i get enough of the cold in the uk lol.
  24. Hi im looking at going over in august or september 2012. I havent booked my flights yet as currently not sure when or where to go so any advise would be great. I'm currently travelling alone so would like to know the best place to go for work and to meet other backpackers in my postion . I'm also looking at getting the 2 year work out of the way just in case i wanted to stay longer . Also how much money is best to take ?
