  1. One of my wife's training days when she starts work at her new school near Perth in January consists of teachers doing PE activities as a get to know each other. I think this is a good idea as opposed to just sat in a classroom or a hall listening to somebody preach.
  2. Hi Clare, She used to look on jobswa which are all government jobs and applied from there. She joined an agency which apparently look for jobs in the private schools but that agency were useless. By the time she had organised her own interviews for 5 jobs in state schools the agency hadn't even been in contact.
  3. My wife and I are leaving UK for WA in December. My wife had 5 phone interviews each lasting around 10 minutes, she was offered 4 jobs. She is a Maths teacher who has 10 years experience & has been put on the top pay bracket. We didn't think she would have a chance as we'd been told on here that people still in UK don't really stand a chance of landing a job. If anyone is unsure, give it a go, all schools were state schools not private.
  4. Hi @Sammy1, My wife has two phone interviews on Thursday for Schools in WA and just wondered if you had any ideas as to the type of questions they may ask. Thanks
  5. My wife sent her forms off to be registered with TRBWA the other day, she is going to apply for some jobs from the UK on the off chance they maybe interested & also a guy we know teaching in Yanchep is going to hand her CV in at his school to see if anything comes of it.
  6. Thanks Sammy & Yes Perth. Unfortunately we won't be there until March / April. Do they do any phone interviews as at a push we could make it there for December ready for the new School year. Thanks
  7. Sammy - Are you able to give us some more brilliant advice pls. Most jobs my wife has seen advertised are for Maths/Science do many schools not want straightforward Maths Teachers...thanks.
  8. Think if you get teacher sponsorship you can only teach in some states if not all. This means if you struggle to find work as a Teacher or should ever lose your job then you couldn't work as anything else. With the PR visa's you can look for other types of work to bring money in.
  9. Somebody I know teaching in WA thinks he gets more respect from pupils than he did in the UK but could be luck of the type of pupils/area he has found himself with/in
  10. Sorry you may have said already Sammy but what subject do you teach?
  11. Wow, one minute it sounds positive as Maths & Science are in demand and that from next year primary year 7's are getting moved up to secondary so they will need more staff to this situation....We don't know what to do, this after shelling out 3.5k on applying for PR visa.
  12. We've been told by people in WA that schools there still have a shortage of Maths & Science teachers and that from next year they will require even more as year 7's are to be moved up to secondary school instead of primary. It's strange as you get differing opinions (not knocking anybody at all) as people will have different experiences
  13. My wife did all that along with all the transcripts and it was accepted several months back.
  14. Hi We got told by a Teacher from England who is currently in Perth with his family that WA are renowned for not putting teachers from the UK on their deserved payscale per years they have been teaching as they don't recognise the qualifications, therefore getting put on much lower pay. Has anybody else heard of this? Thanks
  15. Elizabeth, Did you get much response from the various schools and have you had much relief work? Also are you planning on becoming full time at a school? Did you get the list of schools from a web page or did you find out that information when you arrived. We really don't know what area we plan to find a holiday rental as not sure which school she will be teaching at etc. Keith
  16. Thanks for that reply Sammy, Whereabouts are you based and are you a Teacher? I've heard from somebody who is based in Yanchep that it could take several months to find work and will probably have to start with casual relief work (supply). We are just worried that neither of us will find work for over 6 months, especially my wife as she is the main applicant and all our money/savings will be dwindling away. In the first few weeks we are going to go round schools dropping of her CV and register with agencies, do you recommend any agencies? She will also have to register to teach in WA when we get there, we can do that from Uk by sending her passport off etc but have been told this is a bit of a risk. Thanks Keith
  17. Hi, Just applied for our skilled independent visa 189 yesterday but are undecided on Perth or Melbourne. My wife is a Secondary school Maths teacher and we were wondering if any teachers out there have any advice as to whether or not Perth or Melbourne is better in terms of demand for teachers. Thanks
  18. Hi, My wife is a secondary school Maths teacher in England and yesterday we just applied for our skilled visa 189 (just under 4k), we were wondering what is a CV Oz style. Thanks
