  1. Hey alien1975 - I'm loving your can-do attitude. If anyone is going to make it here - it will be you! Hubby is a building surveyor, and its hilarious as we came out on his skills for a visa but my line of work (project management) is over flowing with opportunities, whilst the jobs for his appear to have dried up. It just seems that the demand for jobs goes in cycles - and I guess the construction industry is in a dip! I'm sure your accommodation will be just fine, and it might be a great way to meet people too! Maps are deceptive! As long as you are near decent transport links, it should work out just fine! Let me know how everything goes, and if you fancy meeting up when you get here, let me know.
  2. Hey Gypsy 10! Of course you can send me a private message. Would love to hear from you. It's getting close so you must be really excited! You've got to stay positive. Its such a huge move and I appreciate its tough for some. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. See you in a few months!
  3. Hi Alien1975 - Hang in there. Its daunting, especially doing this on your todd. Its tricky about where to live. Some of my colleagues share flats and live in the city, but nice apartments cost the earth and they are now looking further out. Living further south, maybe in Cockburn right next to the train station - 15 mins to the centre of Perth is always an option and there have been a fair few on offer recently as they are building like mad. They reckon Cockburn is the next big city South of Perth. Not sure what's round Claremont, but there is a train station there - so maybe look at places near the train line? I'll ask some of my colleagues at work as some of them are looking for flat mates - and think one or two live near claremont, so they may know whats around. Let me know how you get on. Great that you;ve got a job to go to. My husband has been made redundant and has been looking for the last two months 7 months in - yes still finding our feet a bit. I have now passed probation on my permanent job in the city which is great, and we are more settled in terms of the process of things and where to go - but missing friends terribly. everyone says to give it a couple of years, so thats the plan.
  4. Hi Alien1975. Just putting this out there - my dad is hoping to do some short term lets (anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks) to target the UK emigration market, people coming over for the first time who need some assistance getting themselves sorted. The house is in Harrington Waters & walking distance to Warnbro train station. It would be a room rental - but you would have free access to your own bathrooms, laundry & living areas & movie room. He is also offering free pickups from Perth airport. I know its not ideal for you, but he is a friendly yorkshire grandpa who is just looking to help out. Me and my family have only been here for 7 months ourselves and appreciate how hard it is to get driving licences, medicare cards, centrelink numbers, Tax file numbers etc - so having someone in the know is invaluable during those first few weeks. He's not really looking to make a profit - so let me know what kind of price bracket you are after, and if you;re interested.
  5. Hi there Gypsy10! We live in Aubin Grove - my children are 5 and 10 and recommend Aubin Primary really highly. Its an amazing school - the principal is so swtiched on and children can walk to school safely - especially now the lollipop man is in place. My kids love it. There are firm plans to build the Aubin Grove train station as well which will make commuting to Perth easier (we hope!). Parks are great - good community atmosphere too. We have friends in Atwell and no complaints there either. Best of luck with the move. Let me know if you want to meet up when you arrive! It also appears they are building a Woolworths on the roundabout between Atwell and Aubin Grove? or so the signs say!
