  1. Oh, how I love ridiculous comparisons!
  2. Cool, cheers.. I'll give those a watch & a read tonight
  3. Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a documentary or series about the history of Australia? We're moving to Aus in August & I know various bits & pieces but I'd love a documentary to give a synopsis, however detailed. Any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers!
  4. Yep, that's what I did. It was t accurate for me either, as I've lived in NI for all my life except the last 6 years, I live I'm Scotland now too! Where abouts are you & where are you going in Oz?
  5. Well, I just filled the out the form with all the details as per my passport - nationality etc. When it asked have I ever lived outside Ireland, I said yes, put in the UK and entered the dates as much as I could. My visa was approved in 2 hours
  6. Hi all, I am in the middle of applying for a working holiday visa. I was born in Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom. I have an Irish passport which lists me as having Irish nationality. During the application process, I state that I have an Irish passport etc and my country of residence is the UK, which it always has been. I am then asked "In the last 5 years, have you visited, or lived, outside IRELAND, REPUBLIC OF for more than 3 consecutive months (other than Australia)?" which is a problem because if I say yes, I am asked to enter dates - only within the last 5 years when I visited another country! Any ideas? Surely someone must have been in the same situation! I don't want to pay the $270 only to have my application declined on a silly error on their form. Thanks, Steve
  7. Shortest reply ever here: You can look over peoples reports, theorise and deliberate as much as you want, but it's the same for almost everything: You don't know until you take action. 5 months from now my girlfriend & I will be on a plane. I realise you have a son too, which adds a bit more complexity than my situation but kids are hardy and if I was 14 again, I would love to spend my teens in Oz (I may resist at first). Life is for living, not scouring web forums for the magic answer.
  8. We're set to make the big move in August this year. I'm just wondering your views on notice period at work. I know I need to give 4 weeks, but my boss is rather... well, unpredictable is putting it nicely! If I say I'm moving to Oz, I know the first thing he will say is "and you've known about this how long?" but at the same time, if I give more notice than I need to, he's likely to just can me prematurely. Any thoughts?
  9. Hi All, Just joined PIO yesterday and am so pleased to have found such a well put together resource! Anyway, my girlfriend & I plan to move to Brisbane/Gold Coast around August this year. She is a nurse and has got her AHPRA registration approved already. She will be the primary applicant on a 457 visa and I will be the secondary. I basically just wanted confirmation that will indeed be able to go down as named person on the visa application and wondering what sort of visa I would get. Would I be able to work etc without restriction? Cheers, Steve
