For anyone that has used chess removals to transport goods from Australia back to the UK- did the cost of the original quote from them change much once they had collected your goods? I have been given a price but they have said it can only be confirmed once our stuff has been collected and the volume checked. I don't want to end up with a really expensive quote once they already have our stuff!

Hi! We are in the process of moving back to the UK in about 6 weeks. We have had a few quotes for shipping and the cheapest seems to be Chess Removals. I researched them on here and a lot of people have had a good experience with them. Make sure you shop around for shipping costs as our quotes have varied hugely!! Just about to start looking into insurance, iv heard its a lot cheaper to go with an independent insurer than with the removal companies. Hope that helps!

Iv only just been granted the visa. So peach I have to live here for five years before I'd be able to go and come back? I thought the same as the others as in as long as you live in oz for 2 out of the 5 pr visa years then I would be able to renew my pr visa. I'm not guna be leaving oz for another 12 months yet

Currently in oz on a 186 visa, just wondered if I leave oz to go back to the uk for 1-2 years will my visa still be valid for me to come back to oz? Thanks

I arrived on a 457 visa 4 weeks ago and tried to get a contract phone with telstra, was told we have to have a landline for a minimum 12 months before they will give me one on contract.

Hi Duchess, When i first got my registration from the NMC im sure i got a letter (statement of entry) but i didnt have to send that off to AHPRA. Like you say, the NMC sends it. The only thing they might be asking for is your certificate for when you completed your course. You should trying phoning AHPRA to find out for definate what it is they need. they are not very good at responding to emails!

Hi Leebecs, I moved to newcastle nsw 3 week ago and have been doing LOTS of driving around the different suburbs! It looks like beresford is in sydney? Is that right? If yeh sydney is about 2 hours away from newcastle. If ive got it right and u still want info on newcastle then this is what ive found: Good areas: Merewether, adamstown, adamstown heights, cooks hill, warners bay. Best website is realestate.com.au We've chosen adamstown heights because its nice, close to everything and has good commuting times for me and my partner (partner works in williamstown) There is a group on facebook called expats in the hunter and i asked on there about areas in newcastle and there are lots of replies to it. Be worth u joining and having a look xx

Yes im going to keep my NMC registration up whilst in oz. ive been to oz before and kept my registration going in the UK so you can definately do it

Hey Kapri, Did u arrange for your letter of good standing before you sent ur application off? I did this and they never recieved mine! give the NMC a ring and they will send another one out the same day. Also not sure why you have to prove your address? But a certified bank statement should be fine or a copy of your driving liscence. hope u get it sorted X

NIGHTMARE UPDATE: This whole APHRA process is so stressful!After telling u all last week about aphra wanting more documents and my application being sent to sydney from adelaide iv had to do the following: 19/6-spoke to someone on the phone abou the requested documents who couldnt answer any of my questions and said he would get a manager to email me within 2 working days with the answers-still not recieved that email! 20/6 spoke to the nmc to ask them to send another letter of good standing as ahpra saying they havent recieved it.Spoke to the NMC who wont send another without APHRA emailing them directly (god help me trying to get that email sent!!) 27/06- called APHRA to ask why no reply from a manager, was told i had to be put through to adelaide office because thats where i sent my application. Spoke to adelaide-they said they couldnt help because my application is in sydney and by that point the sydney office had closed! 28/6 Phoned sydney office- Been told i now have to arrange to do a stat declaration to prove I worked for an agency in australia in 2008. I have emailed this agency twice over the last week and phoned them and still they have not even acknowledged that they need to send a statement of service to save me having to do a stat declaration. o and ahpra also want all my pay slips from 2008 as well to go with the stat dec! I arrive in oz in 4 weeks and the chances of registration before then are looking pretty slim Hope everyone else sint having too much of a nightmare!xx
