  1. Sorry just assumed that the FIRB would apply to people applying for an entry (business startup or investment visa) AFAIK the only stipulation is on where we work. but i definitely will check out what their website says. Thanks again for your help
  2. That would make sense i suppose, but this is Australia and nothing is for sure,I went onto the abn setup website, just asks for a TFN and your personal details. thanks for your help
  3. Dont think so, our visa suggests that it has no expiry date and that, would hate to think i would need as suggested, been paying tax in Australia for 4 years. but interesting point..
  4. Hi all, been a while since i have had to use this forum, so thanks again in advance for such a great place to get some help. Been a whrilwind tour for us over the last 4 years. The story of how we both ended up on a Bridging visa E is for another time, but we got through it thank god. so we are currently 6 months into a 187 RSMS visa Granted on my profession. MY husband is keen to set up a company but we are unsure if he is actually able to. He is granted 187 as a spouse on my visa. Although i know that i need to stay employed for a further 2 years, he has never had any stipulations over who he works for, but has never been self employed in this country. anybody any ideas? I suppose i could as immigration direct, probably get the standard answer (talk to mig agent) thanks again Dawn and Graeme
  5. Thanks MaggieMay from border.gov.au Home > About Us > Corporate information > Fact sheets and forms [h=1]How can I prove I have functional English?[/h]To prove that you have functional English you must provide evidence of one of the following: You are the holder of a valid passport issued by the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland and you are a citizen of that country. Currently on a UK passport as a UK citizen. So passport is all thats required right?
  6. Have some additional questions, i would hope somebody would be able to point us in the right direction. Just about to get 186(7) health assessments done for both myself and my husband. I have already conducted my IELTS and received my new TRN from my employer. I am a bit confused on what i i have read about [h=2] Secondary visa application charge (SVA) I could be wrong but this would suggest that my husband (dependent adult) would also need to take this test or pay a huge fine ?[/h] Also does anybody know if you are able to register a company (sole trader) whilst you are on a 187 visa, I am working towards being a fitness instructor (457 doesn't allow employment by anybody else apart from your sponsor ) and would like to do some paid work (in addition to my full time sponsored job) Thanks in advance Dawn and Graeme
  7. Makes for a good read Ouch. shouldn't have cheated then
  8. Weighing everything up. It would be silly to pass up the opportunity of a 187 visa. Thats the route we will take (unless the WILL do us a 186 (unlikely))
  9. Molong blink and you miss it. We are in Orange 2.5 years now, love the town being only 3 hours from Sydney but still country
  10. good to hear, looks like they have finally got their **** together. i applied for my passport back in july (14 weeks before traveling) got it a week before we went
  11. ok just about got it now.. just another quick one... i lets say she gets the 187 and does 2 years work. what happens after that? is she free to work anywhere or does it still need to be regional?
  12. Thanks stormy, it seems that she can do a modified assessment through anmac at a llower cost
  13. hmm.. thats a bit daft IMHO she is already a registered nurse here
  14. Hi currently on 457 looking like applying for a 189 visa is our best option being that it has no lock in time like the 187 or 186 visa. However the 189 visa is mostly for people outside Australia who are applying for residency based on their profession and because of this there are many external bodies (VETASESS TRA ANMAC) that check people have the necessary skill level to apply for registration in Australia. Before we came over i has considered getting my UK plumbing assessed through VETASSESS when we looked into it however it was much quicker for us to apply for a 457 Based on My wifes job (nurse) we had our 457 approved 2.5 yeas ago and have been living here ever since. She however is 'tied' to her employer. the 189 talks about a 'skills assessment' surely this would not be applicable as she is already a RN in NSW. I am going to phone Imigration to seek clarification, but wondered if anybody else has gone through this ?
  15. ... Yes, looks like thats they way we are are going.. might have to open a question in the nurse related thread.... but im confused about the ANMAC thing.... In order to practice as a nurse in Australia you need to be registered with APHRA they provide you with your registration. The subclass 189 visa talks about a skills assessment done by ANMAC (just like plumbing is done by TRA) I am hoping this ANMAC thing is for overseas nurses needing their skills assessed as you can apply for 189 visa from overseas. But as i am already registered and have been doing the job that ANMAC assess for surely you would think the "skills test" doesn't apply to me ? It would be a bit silly for that not to be the case? But LOL this is Australia! more red tape wouldn't be a surprise..
  16. Yes that was my thinking.... what about the 189 visa any thoughts?
  17. Ok thanks all for the replies. It has explained a fair bit. I was handed some paperwork from my employer talking about the RSMS scheme (187?) I am not sure if they would sponsor me for the 186 as im in the country. I also don't like the idea of being tied to an employer for a further 2 years, don't get me wrong, i love my job, but i dont know what the future holds, and the opportunity to move elsewhere may arise and from what i have read the 187 would be cancelled if i leave current employer. I had a look at the 189 visa would this be our only option of non sponsored Visa ? and if so could we expect it to be a more strict application than the 187 Thanks again everyone. We joined this forum 3 years ago, and it has been fantastic place to get proper answers from people who know what their talking about!
  18. I am a Nurse located in country NSW Employed 2.5 years.
  19. Hi there We are currently on a 457 visa and I am currently still on a temporary contact with my employer. They have told me that they will be ending most Temp contracts soon, and have suggested that they nominate us for a 187 visa the 187 talks about being a pathway for PR? So after we pay AUD5K for the 187 app will we have to pay a further fee for PR application? Can we apply for a PR application straight away (ie not sponsored) does the 187 make the PR more likley to be approved What is the cost involved in the PR application Dawn and Graeme
  20. My employer said they wanted to get the ball rolling on gaining PR and have requested our passports to start.. so i am assuming that they are planning to do the subclass 186 style visa. I have been living and working here for 12months now. If an employer does the relevant paperwork, is there ever normally a 'tie in period' with the employer? What are the normal costs involved for me (457 sponsored) and my partner (457 spouse) Any help is appreciated
  21. hey ljs212, I also have the letter, my employer wanted me to hit oz a few weeks before so that this was all sorted out i arrive in sydney.
  22. yea sorry about that, it was the meds that were approved on the 2/3/12 - i have edited post now, thankx
  23. No. You first start the visa application. you will get an email the next day which has a link to medical section of app forms. you choose a hospital near you, then print out the form. Book meds and take forms with you- the hospital then forward your forms to either your visa agent, or direct to OZ The main reason you dont do meds before visa is because not everybody needs a medical - my hubby didnt.
  24. Looking to head over 10/6/12 cant wait to start plenty of bubbly tbh. where are you heading to? we are nsw bound
