  1. Given our impending move to Oz in April and the fast approaching festive season I'm just trying to weigh up whether to pop some pairs of ASIC runners on my xmas list or wait till we move. I have a feeling they may be cheaper over here but can anyone advise. Normally pay for mid range pair, so nothing extortionate. How do sports goods compare? I'm guessing there is no Sports Direct equivalent over there. Cheers Sarah
  2. We like you have had our visas for 2 years and only now managing to make the move (we sadly waited for our eldest dog to pass away). We are also a family of 4 ( 2 daughters, 10 and 6) and moving to Adelaide. Flights booked today...eeek...all seems quite surreal. I hope it all goes well for you but feel free to share any frustrations along the way. x Sarah
  3. We're moving to Adelaide in April 16' and i am just starting to plan. Just wondering what documentation you took with you vs what went in your shipping? I've got a fair idea but just wondering whether there is something we might need, I haven't thought of. We already have a bank account in Oz and a mortgage over there so would have a credit rating so not sure we need evidence as well from the UK. Thanks Sarah
  4. Best get persuading the other half to get it shipped before we go...might do the children some good to go without material possessions for a while:laugh:.
  5. We're getting things moving to leave the UK at end March/beginning of April and I was wondering how long people left between getting their stuff shipped and actually flying. Trying to convince my other half we'd be better off being without stuff in the UK for 3-4 weeks and beg/borrow stuff and getting it a bit sooner in Aus. Appreciate it's "horses for courses" but just curious. Cheers Sarah
  6. I can entirely understand. We're both in our early 40s and prepared to give up well paid jobs and take our 2 young children to the other side of the world, because life is too short for ifs and buts. Better to look back and say you tried than never to have tried at all. Life's for living and if we are fortunate enough to gain visas then why would you now take that leap.mappreciate everyone is different, some more risk averse than others, but hey, life would be dull if we were all the same, wozzie ( patiently:wacko: waiting for our 12 yr old boxer dog to pass on so we can move on with the next chapter.shes one stubborn pooch!)
  7. Myself, (Sarah) and hubby Mark with daughters age 5 and 9, hoping to move to Adelaide in 2015. Have 190 visas in hand and activated, and just waiting for our eldest dog, who is 11.5 with health problems to take the trip to doggie heaven....she's hanging on like she'll live forever at the moment but has collapsed several times with a bad heart but always gets up and plods on. We're desperate to make the move but we couldn't consider rehoming her at such an age so will wait out. Have got family in Brisbane and friends in many other parts of Oz so can't wait to move.
  8. Thanks Bob...right, will get the wheels in motion! regards Sarah
  9. So my dog has had his rabies jabs..about 4 weeks ago and I know I now need to get the blood sample done....my vet was a little confused as to whether this has to be sent to a specific place for testing or whether it can go to their usual lab. I will engage a pet carrier nearer the time but just want to get all the prelims done now. I'm also assuming that as he's due his annual booster that he's good to get lepto now as well....is there anything else I need to be aware of...have flown my other dogs in the past from Canada to Germany and then Germany to UK, but this seems so much more complicated! Looking to move in around 7-8 months time.
  10. That's fab news..and wow quick work in all fronts. We were chatting about HR jobs late least year and all we were getting back was doom and gloom so it's put a spring in my step. We're heading over to Adelaide early next year and I was starting to get worried although I did meet with a recruiter on a recent reccie and she said that it really comes down to you as an individual at interview if you have the quals. I noticed in one of your earlier threads you mentioned someone you knew who moved to Adelaide and got a job in 2 weeks...are they on here as I would love to get in contact. Also you mentioned a course you did...would love to know where you found it as I'm struggling to find much apart from more post grads and I already have a Masters in HR and just want a brush up on legislation. Would be good to keep in touch and let us know how it's going and any peculiarities you come across...maybe we can get a networking group going! Hope it all works out. sarah
  11. I never got asked for anything further so no news is good news!
  12. Hi Kez, it's certainly a step in the right direction. We've just completed our meds - just need hubby to get to GP as his blood pressure was high but that should be it for us then. Shouldn't be too long now for vet assess.
  13. Not sure how positive this will be for those who are CIPD qualified as we all know experience takes precedent but this article confirms that the AHRI and CIPD are to mutually recognise each others qualifications. http://www.personneltoday.com/articles/10/09/2013/59640/cipd-and-australian-institute-to-recognise-each-others39-membership.htm
  14. I've been waiting for a CO to be assigned for over 12 weeks now and not a dicky bird. I've submitted pcc and have medicals booked but wanted to speak to someone about my stepson as we still need to arrange his medicals and pcc (if he will agree!) However, can't find anywhere where I can contact them only by phone. If this is the only way then I guess I need to stay up late or get up early as they are only open 9:00-4:00. Anyone else had to wait this long? They say not to book medicals until CO is assigned but this is gettting ridiculous so have done it anyhow. Cheers Wozzie
  15. Well, it's over 9 weeks since application was submitted and still no sign of a CO. I'm getting a little anxious as we go on holiday next week and I don't want to med requests to come through whilst we're away, plus we have to try and convince my oh's son who he hasn't seen for 5 years to go for a medical and get PCC. Oddly though on the requests for document page on the site it has requested, but I have no point of contact to talk to. Anyone else had this. How can I get in touch with them if I need to?? Advice appreaciated. Wozzie
  16. As we have spent some time living in Germany we have had to obtain police clearance carts. We now need to get them translated but I understand we need to used a certified translator. There is hardly any translation required! If anyone could recommend a translator in the UK or Oz if we can email, that would be much appreciated, regards Wozzie.
  17. I submitted on 12 June and still no sign of a CO
  18. Hi Paddymac, no we're doing the same and waiting for request for meds. Have sent for LCD but then we also have to apply to Germany and pay to get translated. Wozzie
  19. Well, the more I read on this thread, the more depressed I'm getting! Seriously though, as any migrant moving to a new country, it's going to be tough. We'd probably be a bit miffed if all migrants moving to the UK all walked in to the best jobs when we have the local knowledge. Having lived in Canada, it is very similar over there and we have to remember that we have to reestablish our credibility. What does get me though is why, if jobs are so scarce, are they on the state lists? I noticed HR Adviser was down to only medium availability in SA towards the end of the immigration year, but now the list has been reviewed it's back to high availability!?.. I'd be interested to hear whether there are any specific HR networking groups in SA which I could tap in to? Fortunately I, like Jessica have done l&d and worked in adult education as well so hope I can be versatile. I'm now wondering whether I should have applied to ACT Instead! My concern is that having applied to SA if I can't secure employment, I am tied there for 2 years, and if I were able to secure a job elsewhere, how would this be viewed.Don't get me wrong, I want to live in SA but ultimately work pays the bills. Incidentally, are any of you on linked in? I find that a good networking tool over here. Not so sure about n Oz. Just have to be careful that my current employer doesn't get wind of my plans at the mo! Sarah
  20. Hi Kez, Vetassess took about 2 months I think. Can't quite remember now. I took my IELTS way back in Feb 2012. I didn't find it too bad to be honest. Oral test was a bit of a daft given it's our native language! I got a practice book off ebay and went through a few. I find them a bit similar to the types of English ability tests we use in psychometrics. It's still nerve wracking though, but you'll be fine. we have applied for our visas. We went for SS for SA and it was approved really quickly and we applied for our visas pretty much straight away. To be honest, Oz has been our second option as we applied for Canada 3.5 years ago having lived out there previously but Canadian immigration are messing with our lives so much we've decided to push forward with Australia and as we have a house in Adelaide it seemed to make sense! So, the time it's taken to get to this stage with Oz is phenomenally quick compared to Canada. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. Sarah.
  21. Thanks guys, that was useful. Regards Sarah
  22. Hi Kez, I have done Vetassess. I've got a business degree and an MA in HRM as well as CIPD, so it was relatively straightforward for me. I expect though that they will be able to do an equivalency on the qualification level for CIPD, so you should be ok. It's certainly a big leap for us as both myself and hubby are in good jobs, but we HATE living in UK so much and have not has the chance to move till ow as he was in the British Army until the start of the year. Now we can be makers of our own destiny....finally! Definitely good to keep in touch. I'm also starting to try and make connections on linked in, but am worried about the job prospects in Adelaide. regards Sarah.
  23. I'm in the process of uploading all of our documents and am a little confused. It specifies under our 2 young children what documents are recommended. Me being me would rather priovide too much than not enough but it lists for our 8 and 3 yr old docs to confirm language ability, relationship, character evidence and member of family unit. I have already uploaded birth certificates and passport but can't see anything else that I can really add, apart from meds when we get them done. Any suggestions gladly welcome. Cheers Sarah
  24. Hi guys, I've just come across this thread and decided to chip in as I am in the process of submitting all my docs for 190 visa to SA, based on my HR qualifications. Jessica, I would certainly be interested in chatting to you more on the hr market in Adelaide as that is where we are planning to settle. In all likelihood it may not be until (UK)summer 2013 due to family health problems etc, but hopefully the market may have started to pick up a little. I'd be interested in understanding what courses etc may be available to get up to speed before coming over and who the bigger employers are. I'm hoping, coming from a background in both outsourced HR and working in HR Shared services for an international organisation where streamlining and strategy are paramount, that may help. Failing that I also have an L&D background. I think networking will be the key so if you could suggest any suitable places to start that would be a massive help. Hubby's going to be looking for work in either transport or logisitics management and has come from a military background. It's exciting and intimidating, but moving around is something we have been used to. The worrying bit is securing employment, but at least we have a small army pension coming in to fall back on. regards Sarah
