  1. Me, OH and DD age 6 moved to Queensland last June 2012. We stayed at a holiday let in Noosavilee for 5 weeks whilst OH (EC&I Engineer) looked for work :err: I have to say it was very daunting on arrival having never been to Australia before. We were jet lagged and scared half to death lol. Looking for work was tricky at first, getting to know what and how to search, tweak CV abit more but hey presto after 5 weeks OH got offered a fantastic job in Central Queensland! Perfect location for us as we're not and never intended to be city dwellers. I have to say he's on a great salary and never had it so good. The amazing climate here suits us, we're always out and about, taken up camping, Kayaking, going to the beach! Apart from the odd grizzle and at times it's still hard and still getting used to the culture, these things really do take time and patience but thanks to the glorious weather and super lovely locals in our area we have made a really go start. We certainly live a good life now, doing wayyyyy more than we would of or could have afforded back in the UK. My Daughter has a truly amazing state school and is very happy there. We still take things slowly and a month at a time but for now we are as happy as we can be....and long may it continue.......

Im not one for writing much but hope this all make sense :wubclub:

  2. If you have school age children.... You have to cross with the crossing lady which walks out and blows a whistle before you can cross, this also applies when you have dropped said child at school! You can't cross on your own and have to wait for the lady/man to stop traffic, blow whistle for you to cross on your own lol. Now I don't mind this one little bit now and always have a kind word to say to the friendly crossing people.....but took a bit of getting used to, and wasn't sure whether to cross on my own or I needed to wait at first( whilst not having child with me!)

Also it is quiet amazing how many people don't want to stop for the lollipop lady .....or Zebra crossing... Often people seem not to WANT to stop, sshockingly mums during drop off times :chatterbox::eek:

  3. A rashie/ Rash vest is a Sun factor 50+ long or short sleeved swimming top, for the beach, beach/sea sports. Keeps you from getting burnt as even factor 50 sun cream doesn't work in summer time. A absolute must IMO, specially for kids, but we all have one in our house. It's a pain having to apply and re-apply heaps of horrid sticky sun lotion otherwise.

  4. Our parcel delivery person in our area leaves any parcels that aren't sign for on the front doorstep. :wideeyed:So if your out for the day, weekend..you have to hope it's still there when you get home! Most people round our way are honest as the day is long so I don't worry too much anymore but if I know parcel is arriving, I try to wait in for it...just in case.

  5. The refuse bins are emptied even on a public holiday . Our first Christmas Day morning we were amazed to have our bins emptied at 7 am!

The bin "men" is one oerson sat in the truck who drives it on their own and who operates an automated arm that comes out grabs the bin tips it up puts it back then drives off!

The post "man" drives a motorbike and doesn't get off it to drop it in the mailbox.

Haha yes...we didn't put our bins out Xmas day as we thought they would never work Xmas  but bugger me..there they were :biglaugh:

And the postie took some getting used to on his little scooter... You can here him coming up the road....ohh the post is here! Lol Still have a little chuckle when I see postie now and again!

  6. Avo...Avacado

    Servo..Petrol Station

    Reno...Renovation/Renovating

    Macca's....Mc Donald's fast food

All sweets are called Lollies :chatterbox: wether it's has a stick or not!

Ice Lollies....Icy Pole....again with or without a stick!

And as some one else mentioned , make sure you park facing the way your driving, I was caught out by this lol until some kind lady said if I new I was parking illegally :embarrassed:

Its funny to watch TV and the presenters/news reader seem to use all these shortened slang words also...takes some getting used to. I'm not into these sorts of shortened slang type word, in the UK or here so I say it as it is....the whole word lol

  7. Omg..............................visa approved....................cannot believe it............still in shock. Is it a dream?

YAY!!!! Jambos :wubclub::jiggy: I have been checking daily for your Visa approval, well done. Bet your over the moon!! Sooo pleased for you. Where and when are you off?

  8. Hey Sadupops , Were nearly there! our house sale is going through atm and about to exchange contract on the house, as soon as this is done we are booking our flights a month from then, so very soon :jiggy: should be there by June i hope. Honestly im so excited...... i really can not wait.

  9. so i emailed DIAC about why i don't have a CO been an august 19th applicant with the date on the website now September 13. I am on ABPF since early march and have not had a CO contact me. All documents have been uploaded, medicals, PCCs, w2 pay statements and everything else since i started working. this is what they said in quotes

    "Dear Client,

Thank you for your email in relation to your visa application under Australia's General Skilled Migration program.

Your email has been forwarded to the appropriate area for actioning.

We appreciate your patience in this matter.

    Yours sincerely,"

in the subject i see two names

"Attn: Re: TRN: xxxxxxxx for General Skilled Migration application"

Does that mean what i am thinking? :twitcy:

Hey sadupops, i don't think your allowed to put the full name of your Case officer or the like on the posts, best edit the post and remove it or i think the mods will. Just so you know

  10. Hi my meds have been finalised. status shows further medical results recieved 13/4 then health requirements finalised 13/4. The rest of the family are still showing as received. So is it only referred meds that need to be seen by med team?

Yes, only referred get seen by med team, if yours have finalised then your home and dry.. The same with mine.... mine were referred, hubby's and daughter were finalised straight away, a few days after mine referred they were finalised and visa granted. Congrats and wait for the golden ticket :wubclub:

  11. Hi All,

It's been a while since i have been on PomsinOz. We sold our house and moved into rented in December and then i started a new job in January so we have been pretty busy. We also decided to get married before going to Oz and then at the start of March we got our CO assigned, can you please update our details SHandGH. We did our medicals and police checks back on 17th March so have been waiting now for our visa grant for a couple of weeks, it's beginning to get unbearable!

Hi, Have you tried dropping your CO an Email saying that everything has been uploaded and if there is anything further they require from you? I did this a recieved my Visa the next day  As long as your medicals have cleared. Good luck

  12.

Were your meds referred or were they ok?

Mine were referred because i had previous minor medicals issues that i took doctors letters in with me and also because i got soooooooooooo stressed out my blood pressure was raised and my heart beat kept skipping, looking back i was so worked up for nothing (but we live and learn)!! so we all got MET in the end within a week of uploading our meds and a nice shiney visa followed:biglaugh::wubclub: Please dont worry, you really do need serious medical conditions for them not to let you in OZ. (((hugs))))

  13. Hi

We've just had our medicals as everyone knows we are once again in a stress. Once our xrays and bloods have been looked at the clinic will send them on as they have our TRN number. How will we know when this has happened? Will our agent know or will we receive anything from DIAC to let us know or do I fear we JUST HAVE TO WAIT...................:arghh:

Sorry to keep going on and I know I really need to get a life outside PIO but i'm afraid I'm completely obsessed:twitcy::wacko:[/quote

I got so stressed about my medicals I gave myself chest pains!!!!! Your clinic will wait for bloods to get back before uploading, so about a week ish maybe 5 days if lucky. Your on line status will change to say received and then referred or met for each individual applicant. Once every is Met then your done. Very best of luck and I will keep looking to see your happy status! X

  14. Good to hear from you so the stress continues post visa grant by the sound of it. looks like you are just about there so fingers crossed for you. Where are you heading to??

I think I've reached a point where if its meant to be it will happen but the waiting is really hard on all the family.:arghh:

Good luck to you hope it all works out well when you get there at least the sun will be shining!!

Do u have a house to sell? if not then stress does go away, nothing seems to bother me much anymore lol nothing compairs to Visa stress:biggrin:

Heading to Queensland, not sure where tho as hubby going to apply for jobs once contracts have been exchanged on the house, otherewise he might get a job offer that we have to turn down if house falls through again:cry: going to book flights for a month after we move out as got no where to live after and i'v waiting long enough........ getting a little excited now :jiggy:.

I'm sure it'll come good for you, the medical part is the worst bit, especially if referred but usually comes out good:yes:

  15. Theres only A or B!! We brought the latest consultant letter along. Our daughter is actually doing really well issues nearly resolved. we are just waiting for one more test to see if she needs medication or not......

Hey Jambos, how are you doing? I v not been on here for soooooooooo long, i see your well on your way to completion. Hope your meds go through ok and youll be flying high in no time :cute: Just popped on here to see if any of the old gang are around. Best of luck to you :wubclub:

I'm still in the UK, waiting for house sale to go through then i'm of for good. I had one fallen through and this is house sale number 2:arghh: so fingers and toes crossed. Although very stressful, nothing can compare to the stress of getting the Visa so i'm coping ok atm!

Good luck to all on this amazing thread

  16. OMG... Nobody can be more of a wreck than I was! I was even shaking when it came time to ring and make the appointment! The staff at the Edinburgh location were amazing and calming. However, I was still so nervous my bp was at 160/100... It took 2 more readings before they got it to normal. I was so relieved when it was all over, but of course, had to wait a week to see if I would receive a "dreaded phonecall"... Which obviously never came. In the months leading up to the medical I had practically thought I had every disease ever known to man. Our minds play crazy tricks on us.... You're totally fine as they would have said something to you before you left the clinic...

All the very best to you for the rest of your adventure!!

Ditto, i was an absolute wreck at the medical and thought for sure i had a horrid disease they were going to find LOL However they didn't and of course all is well and we now have our visa's :wubclub: so don't stress, it's normal to feel worried but sure you'll fly through.

  17. Hello everyone

Today, 3-Jan-2012 we have received the best gift one could possibly get from DIAC to start our New Year.

We received our Visa Grant notice today after sending in the FBI checks on 1-Jan-2012. What a way to start the New Year in style.

I would like to thank the countless people on this forum who by the sheer nature of sharing have provided immense support.

We plan to move to Melbourne and make our initial entry by Nov 2012.

  18. Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

What a fantastic day it is today - not only is it my first day off work for the Xmas Break (not back til the 4th) and I think we will get the missives on our house sale concluded this week, but woke up this morning to a

    DIRECT VISA GRANT (22/12/11)!!!!!!! :chatterbox::chatterbox::chatterbox:

Even though I was hoping it would come through before Xmas, I'm still in shock - good shock might I add!!!

Just as a bit of additional info, e-mail came in from a senior CO from Team 2 and my first entry date is 04 November 2012, which was the date my front loaded meds were finalised. Also, on the 'Electronic Application Status Page' my application still says 'processing commenced' and all documents still show as required, however under each person it say 'Applicant approved' and the visa entitlement details are there - so guys, don't panic if you don't see any movement on this page, it means nothing!!

I want to thank everyone in this forum (and the last one Tania!) as it's been a real lifeline - I'm heading away to visit family over Xmas so won't be on, but will definitely pop back in when I'm back to see how everyone else is doing!!!!

GOOD LUCK ALL THOSE WHO WAITING - IT'S ONLY ROUND THE CORNER!!!

So happy for you, congratulations :wubclub:
