  1. Oooh touchy...merely commenting on how cold it is for end of April??
  2. Jeez and that's the last week in April!!
  3. I've never been so cold as when we lived on the central coast. More inside the house than outside. We would sit watching tele with a rug, ugg boots, hoodie etc. Houses are really cold in oz and going for a shower is hell lol. We had loads of covers on the bed as well! It reminded me of when I was a kid when our house had no central heating brrrr. Bring all your winter clothes, you probably won't wear a coat but you'll need layers and I'd recommend thermals to keep you warm inside the house!
  4. Totally agree he has to mention both countries, but just don't know why he has to compare with negative comments about Australia that's all. Anyway back on track
  5. He's compared wages, housing and opportunities in the uk with Australia. All negative about Australia...no need imo.
  6. That's hard for you. :daydreaming:Yes tricky situation with no easy outcome.
  7. Now you have moved back to the uk please don't start the uk vs oz comparison. :daydreaming:
  8. I know but it may help her settle a little more when she comes back?? Like I say it's soo hard when children come along as it's natural to want to be around family etc. Even harder when your partner is intent on staying. Difficult position to be in.
  9. Perhaps go back for a few months visit? So hard when children come along, your priorities change massively.
  10. It's not exaggerated, there are a lot of rainy grey days in the uk, but that's the uk we all know. People moan about the weather all the time...it's a uk tradition!
  11. It is not a myth, the uk does get a lot of rainy days and grey skys but that's the uk and most people just moan about it and get on with life. To be fair you've only been back a very short time so you're still in the honeymoon period but saying that you'll probably love living in the uk, it's a great place if the weather doesn't bother you.
  12. You sound incredibly bitter. Perhaps some research and a reccie before you moved to Australia may have saved you so much pain.
  13. I didn't pay for any of mine as was bulk billed. I did go to docs with a knee problem in the uk and they referred me to a specialist. Think it took about 5 weeks for the appointment to come through and they sent me to a private hospital in Bath. Amazing treatment, had mri scan and xrays and got the results about 2 weeks later. I must admit I was surprised to be treated at a private hospital but was very nice to do so.
  14. I have to agree with you on the dark and cold and not wanting to go out or do anything when it's like that. Most people tend to hibernate over those months unless you get some crisp sunny days. Have to say though central heating is amazing!! Australian houses are awful in winter and I've got into a few "arguments" with ozzies along the lines of "but we don't need heating" to which I reply "nor do we in the summer" I've never been so cold in a house as I have in an Australia, apart from when we were kids in the uk without any heating in the house. Have to agree that the nhs is getting worse. I've always had to wait for appointment but then I think it depends on where you live. Always had to wait at least two weeks for results of tests. Was shocked in Oz when I booked a dr's appointment at 11pm and was able to get in the next morning. Sent for blood test which were done the same day and an ultrasound, which I booked and got appointment two days later. Results back in two days! Saying that the nhs is seriously overstretched and I've always received great treatment.
  15. I agree with a lot you are saying but....certain posters banging on about Perth being a boring place & set up for retirement doesn't bode well, the same as if someone posted about the uk being full of immigrants and always raining. I totally get people post on here with their issues with oz and are looking for support, it's certainly not the utopia they thought it was and that fine, but why are people delusional? Yes people that are settled back in the uk will add their support and that's what they're looking for, but I just don't see the need to bag Australia after they have left, they do need to move on for their own sanity surely? Did the same people moan about the uk and all its problems before they moved to oz...probably!
  16. I agree with you and yes they will voice their reasons but what I don't understand is the need to run down a place because you couldn't settle. We're all different and I've said on my previous posts...you need to do what makes you happy and I would never stay somewhere that made me unhappy. I think a lot of people don't realise the implications of emigrating. If you have a close family, love the pubs, shops and the uk climate etc etc. then you are probably going to struggle big time.
  17. If you say so :daydreaming: This sort of post is why threads turn into uk vs oz. You didn't like it...move on.
  18. The Central Coast is a lovely area but would probably mean an hours commute, but lots of people do it as housing a fair bit cheaper.
  19. Why so defensive? I'm not knocking you, I wouldn't stay in a place that made me unhappy either, so don't know why you feel the need to reiterate your reasons. I get it...you don't like Perth...lots of people don't. You made the move and it's made you realise that what you had at home was what you wanted all along. I was simply mentioning the Perth bashing in response to previous posts about it always turning into uk vs oz.
  20. Think it's what you want out of life, whatever or wherever make you happy. I do find the Australia (especially Perth) bashing on here is worse than the uk bashing though, but it's only a select few and always the same posters...they just can't seem to leave it! Very sad that a place you lived in years ago still seems to consume your life now. But it will continue on and on as per. :daydreaming:
  21. You know if it's not right for you so you have to do what will make you happy. Personally I find the uk boring and mundane. I like the uk...I just don't like living there, but we're all different and what's one man's meat is another man's poison.
