1. Thanks for the input, think that will reassure her,
2. Trying to assist a colleague, who has been here with her boyfriend for a number of years (originally on 457 through his employer). The employer have since sponsored him for a 186, which was granted in June 2019. She was the secondary applicant in his application and so also has a 186 granted, without any conditions. The relationship isn’t going well - he is very controlling and is in denial about a increasing issue with alcohol, which is also causing him to be absent from work frequently. My colleague is wondering what her visa situation would be if she ends the relationship, and also if he loses his job? Any thoughts? Many thanks

Hello NorthernSoul - I notice from the forum that you're a recently-emigrated clinical psychologist? If you have any insight you could add to the following thread on the forum, as a result of your experience with AHPRA/APS, that would be lovely :-)

4. I used to work in youth criminal justice system in UK and afraid to say a caution IS actually formally classed as a conviction - the person has to 'accept' the disposal of a caution (the Police can chose to take the matters to court if they don't) so technically is accepting their guilt with regards to committing the offence. The police (nor solicitors) don't explain this well in my experience but hence why they'll always come back on CRB checks and PCC. As others have advised, I'd declare it now to DIAC highlighting your error - and don't forget to declare on landing cards too.
5. I got on a plane and left life as i've know it behind!! Currently in the heat and humidity of Singapore, avoiding the HUGE numbers of shopping malls as already pushing the limits of Singapore Airline's generosity! Tonight, its back on a plane and tomorrow, I will finally be in Oz and the adventure really begins!! YEAY!!!!
6. Good - seems joining the tax system is most straight forward bit of whole move! Thanks for confirming.
7. Sorry, daft follow-up question - if you apply online, do they still ask for proof of ID and how do you get it to them? Just trying to figure out which Oz paperwork to do when and how to do it (everywhere wants 100 points of ID!) as once i get there, will only have a week before starting work to do all this stuff. Thanks
8. Hi there, Nice to see another clin psy on the forum - and moving to Melbourne too! I'm going on a different visa (state sponsored 176) but hopefully can help a little with the paperwork and registration hoops to jump through. Firstly, yes, get your qualifications recognised by APS - their website is quite clear about what documents they require and they're not as strict about who can certify them as AHPRA (i got a solicitor to do it - this is not acceptable for AHPRA...see next step!). I had to do this for my visa so it was first thing i did - I suspect you need to have it first too, before you apply to AHPRA (the next step). AHPRA is for both registration as a 'psychologist' and then endorsement as a 'Clinical' Psy - i found getting the 'psychologist' bit a lot more straight forward than the 'clinical' - they want all sorts of letters from supervisors, logs of CPD and supervision, letters from HPC and BPS and copies of your transcripts sent direct from those organisations. They're a little pedantic and it takes time (about 3 months) but i got there in the end. I'd definitely advise starting these from UK as they can take time and i don't think employers will look at you until they are in place. As regards job prospects - I don't arrive til mid-August and I already have 2 job offers (after applications direct over internet and skype interviews). Both for permanent posts, one in public health and one in private, and one is a job i've been dreaming of (yeay!!)...so i'd say personally job prospects are v good. The pays not as good as NHS - that said, i'm waiting for formal written offers as there seems to be a few added extras (annual leave loading, super and salary sacrificing) that i don't really understand the implications of but think will bump the overall package to being more similar. Hope that helps but do ask anything further - and good luck with the move.
9. Well over the last fortnight it feels like Operation Oz has finally kicked off...uni course, exams & essays done, shippers booked, house sale coming along, utilities cancelled, furniture on eBay, various cupboards sorted, dream job in Melbourne secured (!!!), plans made to spend time with f&f in final weeks and probably lots other things. All this whilst working full time - lucky no children to look after! Next week is about shippers and moving out my little London pad - big changes imminent, eek! 8 weeks and counting til I step on that plane and it's beginning to feel like its in sight!!! Yeay!!! Bring it on!
10. With just over 2 months til the move, finally feeling like I'm getting somewhere - after much deliberation just confirmed the shippers (John Mason), house completion date (seems to be) fixed for 3 weeks time, had job interview (for job i really want) and got reply this morning that they are proceeding with references, got another interview in 2 weeks time (for job i'm not as keen on but hey, you need options). After impatiently waiting for the days to tick down, all i need now is my exams next week to be over and then project Oz really kicks in...yeay!!
11. I've just had Skype interview and whilst keeping my fingers crossed (I really want the job, it's so perfect and be fab to have something permanent lined up with just over 2 months til big move!), I was investigating next bit of paperwork I'm going to need - a Working with Children Check. Anyone had experience of applying for this? Can I do it from UK or do I have to wait til I'm there? Do I need an Oz address? Any pointers welcome. Thank you
12. Bumping this - be grateful for your thoughts, esp those who've been reunited with their stuff on the 'other side'. Thanks
13. Shipping quotes down to 3 (JM, crown and PSS) - haggled them all down but I keep coming back to the issue that the price variance is all the about the cu ft they estimated. The cheapest estimated the lowest cu ft and most expensive, the most. I was careful about showing them all the same stuff and giving them all the same list and the differences aren't huge (178, 200 & 235 cu ft) but what is best bet? Anyone had experience of shippers packing up then saying oops we underestimated, give us another £300 ( the difference in quotes)?
14. Thanks everyone - looks like i'm going to need some extra space for a few woolies and perhaps a few more thick socks...i am aware but struggling to get my head around no central heating! I'll be down the road in Sassafras ...thought of snow greeting me there in August is bizarre! It must be just a sprinkling though... got a odd look when discussing de-icing car on frosty British mornings to my friend who lives there...they'd never heard of de-icer! LOL.
15. Ok so stupid question time. Beginning to think about what to ship and what to take with me on the plane - this beautiful sunny weather is reminding me that includes clothes and the challenges of knowing what the somewhat unpredictable British summer will be like, nevermind the '4 seasons in a day' of Melbourne! My shipping is looking like its leaving me in June, I'm going mid-August and aiming to be reunited with shipping in Sept. Potentially then from the soaring heat of London during the Olympics (?!) to the cold of the Melbourne winter (especially in the hills where I'll be staying initially). I'm guessing I should ship the clothing extremes... my UK winter woolies (bulky stuff too) alongside the heat-wave/holiday stuff (can't see a need for bikini in London!), saving my precious 20kg luggage allowance for more versatile clothing. Sadly though flying with Singapore, my visa's validated and they are being vague in their response about additional allowance so need to ship as much as poss, without boiling/freezing at either end. So PIO...what's ur weather predictions?
