  1. Thanks for the input, think that will reassure her,
  2. Trying to assist a colleague, who has been here with her boyfriend for a number of years (originally on 457 through his employer). The employer have since sponsored him for a 186, which was granted in June 2019. She was the secondary applicant in his application and so also has a 186 granted, without any conditions. The relationship isn’t going well - he is very controlling and is in denial about a increasing issue with alcohol, which is also causing him to be absent from work frequently. My colleague is wondering what her visa situation would be if she ends the relationship, and also if he loses his job? Any thoughts? Many thanks
  3. I used to work in youth criminal justice system in UK and afraid to say a caution IS actually formally classed as a conviction - the person has to 'accept' the disposal of a caution (the Police can chose to take the matters to court if they don't) so technically is accepting their guilt with regards to committing the offence. The police (nor solicitors) don't explain this well in my experience but hence why they'll always come back on CRB checks and PCC. As others have advised, I'd declare it now to DIAC highlighting your error - and don't forget to declare on landing cards too.
  4. Good - seems joining the tax system is most straight forward bit of whole move! Thanks for confirming.
  5. Sorry, daft follow-up question - if you apply online, do they still ask for proof of ID and how do you get it to them? Just trying to figure out which Oz paperwork to do when and how to do it (everywhere wants 100 points of ID!) as once i get there, will only have a week before starting work to do all this stuff. Thanks
  6. Hi there, Nice to see another clin psy on the forum - and moving to Melbourne too! I'm going on a different visa (state sponsored 176) but hopefully can help a little with the paperwork and registration hoops to jump through. Firstly, yes, get your qualifications recognised by APS - their website is quite clear about what documents they require and they're not as strict about who can certify them as AHPRA (i got a solicitor to do it - this is not acceptable for AHPRA...see next step!). I had to do this for my visa so it was first thing i did - I suspect you need to have it first too, before you apply to AHPRA (the next step). AHPRA is for both registration as a 'psychologist' and then endorsement as a 'Clinical' Psy - i found getting the 'psychologist' bit a lot more straight forward than the 'clinical' - they want all sorts of letters from supervisors, logs of CPD and supervision, letters from HPC and BPS and copies of your transcripts sent direct from those organisations. They're a little pedantic and it takes time (about 3 months) but i got there in the end. I'd definitely advise starting these from UK as they can take time and i don't think employers will look at you until they are in place. As regards job prospects - I don't arrive til mid-August and I already have 2 job offers (after applications direct over internet and skype interviews). Both for permanent posts, one in public health and one in private, and one is a job i've been dreaming of (yeay!!)...so i'd say personally job prospects are v good. The pays not as good as NHS - that said, i'm waiting for formal written offers as there seems to be a few added extras (annual leave loading, super and salary sacrificing) that i don't really understand the implications of but think will bump the overall package to being more similar. Hope that helps but do ask anything further - and good luck with the move.
  7. I've just had Skype interview and whilst keeping my fingers crossed (I really want the job, it's so perfect and be fab to have something permanent lined up with just over 2 months til big move!), I was investigating next bit of paperwork I'm going to need - a Working with Children Check. Anyone had experience of applying for this? Can I do it from UK or do I have to wait til I'm there? Do I need an Oz address? Any pointers welcome. Thank you
