  1. Totally - more happy at the thought that someone might actually listen to circumstances rather than an absolute no. During the time I guess I will need to look at other options like exporting and re-importing etc but really wish that doesn't end up being the case otherwise my track car might have to wait a little longer ;P
  2. Some good news on this after speaking with the RAC here in the UK. It seems that after taking out the Carnet here for 12 months (all questions logged about the fact we are possibly going out earlier than first thought) that there should be little problem in changing it to a full import once we have full residency. Should this take longer than the initial 12 months then we will lose the 1.8k and have to pay another 0.9k for the following 12 months in which I hope all would be sorted out. The RAC seemed to think that this was becoming not common but at the same time not an unusual scenario and that every case would be assessed on merit. Fingers crossed that this maybe the case as with all the cash lost in cars this year I really don't want to be losing anymore .
  3. He is looking at getting a R35 as he cancelled his order a couple of years ago as it never turned up when it was supposed to as we where meant to meet with Nissan at Le Mans with it, so it became a little embarrassing lol. I know he is also interested in the R34 track car you have or the 324R D1 as he was in talks about the 324R with Miguel (Newera) a while ago but as we didn't know what was happening we went without.
  4. Hahaha yeah, John is a little crazy when it comes to cars!!! Apart from being clueless on how much it would cost to land the porsche until it arrived in Oz, John wants to go back to the GT-R's so the decision was made
  5. Hiya Although we have submitted our application for the 176 visa I may have an opportunity to come over to Perth in Oct on a 456 visa which is a lot sooner than we intended but a great opportunity all the same. With all the hassle of importing my Porsche I decided to sell it last month and bought a spanking new Yamaha XT1200z Tenere. Now the obvious question is although I have only owned the bike a month tomorrow can I bring it over on a Carnet for 12 months and if my perm visa is granted in this time pay the duty to have it as an official import. Not going to sell here as only has 4miles on the clock at present and a stack of parts on route for it too.
  6. Hi Iron Chief We too are in a dilema whether to import our car. Its a 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo with 45k miles. We paid 34k for it 6 months ago but we are not likely to hit aussie shores for another 12 months. Is it worth paying all the import tax (as we don't seem to be able to get a rough estimate of how much tax it will cost once landed) or should we think about selling it in the UK? Any thoughts?? Thanks John PS I like the GTR 34 track car you have on your site & could be tempted with similar if you can find one when we land :-)
