  1. Another way to 'beat the system' (depending on your finances) is to offer a little more than the asking price for a rental.
  2. Hi Alice, Camberwell IS family friendly......it's not somewhere that you will find loads of facilities for young ones though. I would call it an 'old money' kind of place. I believe it has very good schools but so do many in the inner eastern suburbs. Glen Iris and Ashburton are very close by, equally as nice but without the direct transport links (no big deal if you will have a car) and they have great outdoor parks in abundance and swimming centres etc. If i had young kids with me i'd find Camerwell a bit sterile but extremely safe!
  3. We live close by, in Camberwell. It's perfect for 40's/50's with no kids. We're in that bracket with no kids and we love the place. It's an upmarket type of town, lots of good shopping and dining. Sadly only one pub and one wine bar (both excellent though) although a lot of the restaurants have a sitting bar. If we fancy a pub crawl, we jump on a tram or train eitherto the city or to Richmond (15 mins away by tram) where there are pubs aplenty! We also have a great cinema complex (Rivoli). It's only 20 mins by train into Melbourne and there are three train lines through Camberwell, so you never wait more than a couple of minutes. There are also three tram lines through town to the City, so transport wise it's very well served. Hawthorn is also nice, as is Kew, Glen Iris, Balwyn, Malvern.....but for us, it was the plethora of transport links that sold us on Camberwell and we haven't regretted it since. There's a big new apartment complex right on the corner of Toorak and Tooronga next to Coles Headquarters. It has a big Coles supermarket underneath and quite a few other shops, deli's, takeaways and a couple of restaurants (Guessing you may have got a job with Coles judging by the location marker?). There are a good number of rentals in your price range. We pay $550 for a modern three bedroom town house with garage. If we can be of any further help, don't hesitate to drop us a pm and we'll do our best to help. Tony and Wendy.
  4. Hi Ricky....there are loads and loads of public golf courses......far more than in the uk. It's also far less 'stuffy' over here as far as attitude goes at the public courses....and many are really good courses. You can rock up just about anywhere and just play. You might wait around a while at weekends for a tee time but during the week.....simply turn up, pay and play. Good value for money deals on booking multiple slots as well. I'm a pretty crap golfer and there's little in the way of snobbery that one might expect in the uk.

  6. We do a crawl, starting at PJ O'Briens in Southbank, followed by Young and Jackson (not Irish but does a great st Pats day) then the Irish Times and the Mitre Tavern. There are many other pubs/directions the crawl can take but everywhere does something for St Pats day so wherever you go, you'll likely find some good live music and plenty of cheer!
