  1. Hi Ads our 40 foot container is on route to uk from Perth due to get there 15th Nov. We moved with Grace so far so good will let you know when our there shipment arrives!  Nathan at Grace in Perth has been brilliant.  Always replies back to you!  If you have any more questions just ask as like I said we’ve just gone through it!   Lesa

  2. oh that's good to know!  He has gone to the dr's and they have sent off for an nhs number even though he was born there and didnt leave until 2012 when he was 13   He reckons you have to be in the country 365 days before you can get free treatment even though he is working full time doesn't seem quite right to me i've told him to check on it!!

  3. Hi guys how does my son get an NHS number he was born in UK and moved over here when he was 13 so didn’t get one sent to him?  Also is it a year you have to wait before you are eligible to use the NHS

  4. Hi TazG. I think he said it was £43 and he’s had to send his uk passport, birth certificate and oz driving licence the lady he spoke to said as long as you are going to live permanently in the uk then it’s all good!  He sent it off today!

  5. Hi guys my son has moved back to UK 3 weeks ago and wants to transfer his au driving license to a UK one he’s a uk citizen but he’s read somewhere that you have to have lived in uk for 180 days before you can transfer your license   Insurance on a car is sky high if he has to keep his au one!

Hi Everyone, lovely to read so many positive comments about returning to UK.  I was trying to sell our house so we could go but it just wouldn't sell despite all our efforts and price reductions.  As the hankering/homesickness is still there I am about to try again.  We thought we'd be home by last Christmas but the best laid plans...  If it doesn't sell this time we'll probably give up.

Hi Beckfield I was feeling the same but we managed to sell ours this July after being up for 6 months even though we've lost money but it means we can go back to UK  Just hang in there I was getting really down about it all having the home opens every week was getting stressful but dont give up it takes just the one person to like your home and put in an offer x

  7. Hey guys my son is going home before ius and wants to take his iMac and is sending it via pack and send as it’s too big to take on plane. He applied for a TOR so he can ship it but has been denied. They want proof of residency and a goods list   Any ideas as he’s staying with his grand parents, I did put their address on there so not sure what else to do?

  8. Hey guys me again!  We have our household things going back via container but we will stay on here after for a little bit longer and wondering how to ship back hubbys work tools at a later date.  I’ve heard about move cube the small 2m3 would be perfect but not sure how you arrange one from Perth to Uk. Does anyone know how much they are or have any other ideas how to get them back cheaply,

We left in March last year and did our tax return at H & R Block before we left. They lodged it at the ATO but we didn’t get our refund until after the end of the tax year as normal. Make an appointment for a few days before you leave and then you can get it all sorted.

Cheers hopefully they'll do that for me so I don't have to remember a year later!!!

  10. So we're hopefully moving back in September but not sure what to do about my tax I'm employed and was going to do my end of year return now but am working up until we leave so anyone know if I can go in H & R block and file the end of year and sort out July, Aug and Sept tax that I will have paid or will I have to file one next year when I'm back in UK

Just thought. Cancel the insurances on any superannuation you have. They are void if you are overseas abd will drain the account over time.

I have no idea what that is!!!!

Have you thought of keeping your Australian bank accounts just on the off chance of having to receive payments like tax refunds or super.

Yes definetely keeping an account open!!

Wow, that’s a long time to be on edge!

Countryside is a bit crispy at the moment, quite hot and dry. I am currently in Lancashire in a cat friendle holiday let and we have had some showers/rain occasionally. Also not as steamy hot as the south east which is nice. It’s all been rather pleasant! Warm weather easing me back in to the UK! ?

When will you be moving and where to?

We're going back home to Swindon in Wiltshire probably September or early October just looking at flights at the moment they're pretty expensive!!!!!

What Ozzie says.  I've found Skyscanner really good.  If you look carefully, you'll see you can add "Add nearby airports"  so you get more options.  You can also ask it to search for the whole month, not just a particular day, and then it will find the cheapest flight during that time.

Do you have to go back to London?  If you're going back to somewhere else in the UK, it may be cheaper to fly to a European airport, then buy a cheapie ticket from there.

    For instance, when I used to go back to Aberdeen, I booked my return ticket to Amsterdam airport, and then I'd buy a cheap return flight from Amsterdam to Aberdeen separately (there were plenty of commuter flights Amsterdam-Aberdeen in those days due to the oil industry, so the price was always good). I used to save quite a bit;

Thanks for that I wasnt sure if Skyscanner was legit as I looked at Expedia but there were alot of bad reviews!  Will also look into flying to Europe first!!

Funny you should ask that. I left Aus 3 weeks ago and just filled in the AEC form last night and uploaded it to their website. Got the confirmation of removal this morning. Only just got a printer/scanner to do this stuff. Tried making use of the library but that was a pain.

I have tried telling Medicare/Centrelink via mygov but that has been challenging and I’m certainly not ringing them to sit on hold for hours from here! ATO was easy.

Otherwise just my bank was the only other thing apart from the obvious utilities etc. I have redirected my post for 6 months to my son’s place in Aus just to collect the leftovers, in case I have forgotten anything.

I had a very long “to do “ list and the AEC was the last thing on it apart from my final tax return for Aus. ?

So happy for you, you must be relieved/excited!

Thanks Amber Snowball definitely relieved didnt think we'd ever get to go back!!!!  Excited and nervous as we are starting all over again but hubby has never settled here in 6 1/2 years!  Looking forward to the countryside but will miss WA beaches!!!!

  16. Hi guys woo hoo finally house is under offer after 6 months!!  Took a big drop in price but hubby really wants to go home.  Question though did you all fill out electoral forms when leaving, to say will be out of the country indefinately?  Also are there other forms like that we should be getting to fill out to let Oz know we are leaving other than tax office?

No Way!!!!  I was born and raised in Wroughton!!!!!  Lived there until I moved out at age 20!!!   Lived in Greenmeadow and then Haydon End!!!!  Did you go to Ridgeway School??  I've PM'd you!!!!

  18. We're almost 50 and hoping to go as soon as house sells here.  We're from Wiltshire too (Swindon).  Looking forward to going back home even though I like Australia but its just not home!
