  1. Hi,

I posted on her a few months back about a couple of sentimental items made up of plant material. I was advised to take them through customes in my luggage and declare them. I am prepare dto pay the radiation costs on sentimental items. Most of these are tings we brought back from our honeymoon in Africa. Now i am sorting I have found a few more items- shell necklace, string of beads including seeds. Plus I also have a kitchen witch which belonged to my Grandma that has a straw like substance as it's broom stick (can't tell whether it's nylon or horse hair/ straw)

What I want to know is whether a handful of small items get treated at the same time or will they charge me for each individual item?

I was watching passport patrol (or similar) and there was a lady on there who had some necklaces containing seeds, she had them treated and the programme said it cost about £60. Is that about right? Although it will be a painful amount if that is per piece?

  2. It's great to see so many June applicants finally getting their visas. I do wish there was a bit more consistency with the timeframes though because from this forum alone a number of people have got their visas within 5 months when I was told 6 months & these same people applied after me. Im hoping my case officer was just giving me the worst case timeframe as this wait is hellish

Have you chased it with your co? seems that helps.

  3. i just spoke with my co. he said my visa should be ready to be finalised on the 4th. he asked whe the closing date for the job was which is the 5th ( got to wonder if i'd have said 4th whether it would have been ready earlier) i am a bit cobfusedtho as he said that when it's granted on the 4th it would be the 5th there. he mentioned 4 in tge mroning, but can't work out if he meant visa would be granted on the 5th at 4 am which seems odd orbat 4 pm here. who actualy does the final "yes"

eith way not long to wait.

  4. AB. Just sent a polite email asking if I could get an idea of when it would be granted. Not sure, we are probably looking at late Jan, would like to be over before Australia day if we can.

looks like AB is grant happy lately lol. i chased saying it was close to guide pircessing times and i have a job i want to apply for so would be good to send proof or a guideline for time. normally he has come back first thing in the morning but nothing yet. guess maybe no news is good news..........unless he's off sick lol

  5. Fab stuff you filed the same day as me :-). Whose your co? Gonna chase mine now, what did you say? I am about to send a job app sp wondering if i can use that as an excuse as i asked if they had everything a few. Weeks back. Eeeek exciting. when are you going?

    Hi all

Thought I would email my CO for an update late last night, what with all of the other June grants going through, and sitting in my inbox today is my lovely 100 visa grant.

Thanks to everyone for the info on this post, good luck to all still waiting and don't forget to fill in your stats on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aopvk3Y5mD7HdGp5V2hESFluN3V0QWNBTDg2TWJoLVE#gid=0 so everyone can see how long the grants are taking.

  6. Hi everyone,

Quick question. I got some of my documents sent back to me from my CO and was wondering what that meant. They sent back my original birth cert & my police check certificate - won't they need to keep these? Or does them sending these back mean that they have logged that i have them and that part is now done?

Also how do you know whether you have submitted everything they need? Do they tell you right near the start or do they spring it on you later?

Thanks in advance for any help.. and congratulations to those who got their Visa today.

They send originals back and then they send you a letter asking for medicals and police checks, etc as well as assigning you your co. They will let you know if they neec anything else

  7. just wondering if there is going to be a big gap between grants. i filed my visa on 27 june so just before time scale changed from 5-6 to 6-8 and now 8-9 months. currently its taking about 5.5 so going on that basis post 1 july would take about 7 months so what happens between decs grants for junes applications and feb when the juy ones shoud be granted.ni suspect in reality the july applications will be taking 6 months to grant

  8. i am sorry to hear about your father in law.a lot of partner visas have a situation similar to yours. we are nearing grant date and my husband doesn't have a job in fact he has never been to Oz , he is the citizen. We just demonstrated we could work in fact it'll probably be me thats the main earner. i hope it all goes well

  9. If you want to save money then shipping the lot is best. The cost of shipping personal effects combined with the cost of buying furniture items is almost certainly going to be higher than he cost of a container.

I agree Rupert if you are buying new. But tbh in my case I can sell my items and buy 2nd hand ones for the same amount and spend half the amount on shipping. I'd rather have 2nd hand stuff for a while over there and be no worse off financially and when I am settled buy the stuff that actually fits and works in my house.

My approach to shipping is take the stuff you're going to be annoyed you left behind. I.e I don't want to replace every useful item such as sewing kit and laundry baskets, every kitchen utensil I've bought over the years, but I am going to have to buy new glasses and cutlery to see me through so why bother sipping my old naff stuff. I can manage without a sewing kit etc for afew months but I can't do without basic kitchenware. If it's personal and sentimental take it.

  10. As snifte says it's personal choice. We are going in the next 8 months and were where you are now 18 months ago.We have a few nice bits, a lot of sentimentral stuff and a lot of tat and toot lol. A lot of our stuff is hand me down and therefore we have decided to buy 2nd hand out there as it'll be o worse than here. Having said that we'll also be waiting to see under what circumstances we go. if we have jobs we may consider a holiday let for a month or two and therefore could wait for our shipment. If we just drop and go my hsband is going ahead to stay with friends and then will (hopefully) secure a rental for us to join him. Therefore we'll need stuff almost immediately. No good shipping your bed if you then have to sleep 3 months on the floor waiting for it. We'll pick up the essentials from gumtree and ikea etc. and build it back up slowly. Hvaing said that I am still expecting our shipping bill to be £2000. I found it was worth working out what you could sell an item for, what it cost to replace it and what you would be shipping. I found that shipping nothing was the most expensive andshipping it all came in next as we would still have to buy stuff out there.

Happy researching....I find it takes over your life (I am sat here writing this istead of an essay due next week lol)

  11. I have remark (may be just a rumour) that SA Quota numbers are at Peak right now and some are getting conflicting emails.

    what does that mean?

not sure what his job choice is. can't even think what he does accurately enough to have a guess, distant friend lol

  12.

    our personal

joint bank statements (appreciate you don't have these but if you have anything like transfers of money between accounts to share bills etc that would be handy)

    Good luck!

Thats just reminded me, although we have joint accounts our wages come into our own accounts then we shuffle money. this usally means that particular bills come from one of the wages each month. so we showed transfers berween our accounts.

also for a mariied couple you don't need to evidence 12months together but you do need to say why you weren't together during that time ( what i mean is that you won't need too many things like tenancy agreements to demonstrate you are a couple)

  13. we did declarations and provided ones done by my best friend ( lives away from us) a friend in my home town and my mil. we had a couple of others just in case. in our decs we said how we met, how relationship developed and our future plans. we sent about 3 pages of pics ( a lot wedding and hobeymoon lol) and some bank statements. child tax credit and child benefit show you have declared your relationship to the state. basically as you are married what they are looking for is the continuation of the marriage. so financial comitments loans etc. electoral register entry as you must legally be on this. we obviously sent tenancy agreements but a stat dec from your parents may suffice. our application was quite simple, we've been married 5 years with 2 kidds ( one step child too) and so far it's straight forward. i think most important is the statements by you and your partner

  14. Hi, we are starting to clear the house and may be making the move very soon. i picked up a book today and it says that plant material is a definite no go. we knew this but the more we read the more we are worried we'll lose some very precious bits. we honeymooned in africa so we picked uo some wooden masks and carvigs, which i think i am right in saying they'll want to check but should hopefully be passed, does anyone know for sure? They are varnished and not raw wood. But i am particulary concerned about our photo/scrap album. i've attached a picture (hopefully) it's made from leaves and whatblooks like seed casings and has some sticks on it :-( i am sure they'll seize it. can anyone advise whether if i take it in my suitcase they'll allow it to be treated and will treatment destroy it or the contents in any way? i know we can leave it herewith family but it's very sentimental and whilst i never say never this is supposed to be a life move so don't want to leveit behindIMG_20121026_212753.jpg

  15. hi thanks for the update. sorry your daughter was so upset by it, makes me glad we didn't perservere for our 3 year old.

i hope your daughter is happy and that she is comfortable with it

An update for anyone who has similar questions tom mine. We went to the hospital on Wednesday for the lazer therapy. The Dr spoke to us telling us that she would need about 5 zaps repeated 3 or 4 times. We said we may as well give it ago, because who knows if the chance will ever be there again. He used no anesthetic , and said it would feel like a snap of an elastic band. My girly said ok and got set, he gave it 1 zap, and she freaked , she screamed for about 5 mins, and I said enough. A mark is not worth upsetting her this much for. He said he's send us another appointment when she's 11 or 12, and has a higher pain threshold. So the pain it casues is like an electric shock, (daughters description), and it left her skin thick and swollen. It's suppose to bruise after, but since she only had 1 zap that didn't happen, and it was achey that night and the next morning. I haven't noticed any difference in the area she had zapped, but I will check it next week (trying not to draw any more attention to it for now).
  16. thanks, good to hear she isn't teased for it. my husband has just had a new tattoo so my 3 year old thinks this is her one lol. we just say its a mark and that she is special to have it. it gets darker in the sun which will be horrid in oz but hopefully as she gets older she'll learn to sun block it effectively and wear hat to help it. Hope your daughters treatment goes well

  17. Hi all. My daughter is 8 and has a birth mark on her temple. She was refered to the plastics dept when she was 3. The dr said it can be removed easily with lazer therapy, and she was put on the waiting list. So 5 years on, she has finally made the top of the list. She is the biggest chicken when it comes to dr's. There is a chance she may have to have a general anesthetic as the mark is close ish to her eye.

What I want to know is if there is anyone with experience of either lazer therapy or their child having treatment done when they are petrified of needles???

All help and advice is hugely appreciated, Thanks

Hi, can i ask what type of birthmark your daughter has and where you are? My daughter is almost 4 and has a cafe au lait (dark brown) mark around her eye. we wanted to get it removed but nhs will only remove red birthmarks and to do it privately would not only be costly but may not be succesful. she has only just started to ask what it is. i believe the nhs' decision is dependent on the region. But in Australia it will be a total non funded process. I hate the idea she may be teased for it at school but don't want to put her through the trauma just yet.
