  1. A friend of mine runs a playgroup in Cleveland and is keen for new people to join. It is at St James Lutheran Church on Tuesdays at 9.30 am. Just pop along and say hi.
  2. This meet-up is happening again I think on Thursday 4 April, think its generally the first Thursday of each month at the same place. Would be great to see some new faces there, very welcoming and very friendly.

    Irish family North Brisbane

Hi there, I think there is a facebook group called new2northside or something like that - maybe try and find them and see about meeting up for coffee. Quite a few UK people around North Lakes so just keep your eyes tuned for the accents and introduce yourself maybe, that has worked for me a few times. Good luck

    Arrived in Brisbane! Yay!

PaisleyLass, hello and welcome to Brisbane, sounds like you're settling in great and are really motoring through that 'to do' list. I love the Chermside Westfield centre but I usually get totally lost in there as it is sooooo big, its currently the only place they have the apple store in Brisbane although they are coming to the City soon. regarding the insect bites I use a spray that you can pick up at the chemists which is called 'stingose', its what I've seen the aussies using and I got bit about 4 times just last night and it definitely works in getting rid of the itch and calming down the redness. I've reacted really badly to bites and got totally attacked when we first arrived. Best of luck with the house hunting. Sharon x
  5. Hiya, I have met loads of lovely families through the 'Brisbannittes' facebook page, also, through my sons school too. He is always wanting to go on playdates or has parties to attend and its always good to chat to the other mums. I have also met a lovely friend through taking my daughter to her swimming lessons. It is more difficult when the children are younger but once they get into kindy or play groups etc then it can be easier to make friends. Once you get to the gap keep an eye out at local churches for playgroup dates (we did this and found a playgroup that was lovely and I'm not religious at all). Best of luck with your move, the gap isn't far from where I am in Fig Tree (Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary) and would love to meet up with you for a coffee when you get here. Sharon x
  6. Hello to everyone, I have been here just over 12 months, and have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We are currently living in Fig Tree Pocket having recently moved from Chapel Hill. Sharon x
  7. Whilst not in the Gold Coast, the Brisbannittes meet up once a month in parks around Brisbane and is aimed at families and socialising, would be a great welcome for you. Sx

Brookfield, Pullenvale, Chapel Hill and Kenmore Hills

We moved to Chapel Hill and loved the area, we were right on the edge of Mt Coot-tha Forest and it was very popular with cyclist and walkers, it is a lovely green area and if you pick your house carefully then you should be fine with the cycle route to work etc. Some good schools in that area are Chapel Hill State, Kenmore South State, Indooroopilly State and Kenmore State. I drive on Moggill Rd twice a week and don't find it too bad, but bear in mind that there at going to be roadworks at the Mt Coot-tha end for the next 2 years as they build the Legacy Way tunnel.
  9. Hiya, Just to let you know that there is a 'Brisbannittes' meet up this weekend in Springfield Lakes - It is on Sunday at 11am at Robelle Domain, we will be around the playground area and we have a banner now so should be easily identifiable. There will be quite a few families there from all over Brisbane and we are a lovely welcoming friendly bunch. Sharon x
  10. Wellington Point, Sat 25 June, 11am. The exact address for the sat navs is Main Road, Wellington Point, 4160. Just follow it all the way to the end until you reach the Pacific Ocean! As you drive down into the car park there is a childrens playground to your sharp left (under a huge fig tree and next to the man made beach). Suggest we meet there?. There are no BBQ's directly in the playground area but it is a short nip to one nearby. There is also a fish'n'chip shop for the less adventurous! Or a picnic is always an option. There is a nice long walk to King Island if anyone fancies it depending on weather / tidal timings etc. Hope to see you there

  12. If you are on facebook then have a search for 'Brisbannittes'. All the details of this weekend's meet up and future meet ups are on there. The group is quite varied with a good mix of people. Come along and say Hi, we would love to meet you. And thank you Dolphin Diva for spreading the word, its much appreciated. Sharon x
  13. The Next Brisbannites Meet Up.... Hey there, With just 2 weeks until the next meet up we thought we would just send out a final reminder to everyone to have it in their diaries. Time: 1pm Place: Wynnum Esplanade Whale Water Park and Playground Date: Saturday 23rd October 2010 Quite a few people travelled over to New Farm Park from the coast for the last meet up so we thought it only fair to have the next meet up a little closer to the sea. There are bbq's there so if everyone brings a little bit of food with them just like last time we can all tuck in! We're really looking forward to it. Due to the very changeable weather at the moment (just like in the UK really!) we'll send an email nearer the time if we need to postpone. Again we'll also post this on PIO. Hope to see everyone there, Sharon & Matt Jacob & Isobel
  14. Hi there, PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE OF VENUE TO KALINGA PARK, END OF PARK AVENUE, CLAYFIELD - Time 11am Because Suttons Beach is closed we have done a last minute change of venue. We are moving it to Kalinga Park and suggest that we set up a gazebo on a grassy area near the BBQ's, once you get there you should be able to find us fairly easily, give us a call or send us a message if you can't find us. Kalinga Park Location: end of Park Avenue, Clayfield This park is brilliant! There’s a huge sandpit, a series of Aussie tree houses, a climbing wall and fun with sounds. On weekends and after school it is buzzing with children climbing, sliding and having lots of fun. The large flat area beside the playground is perfect for parents to sit down and set up a picnic, plus there are leaf shaped tables, a few shelters and free electric barbeque facilities. Kalinga Park also has a kid-size practice bikeway, a creek complete with ducks and a nearby dog off-leash area. If you live nearby, ride your bikes along the bike path that stretches from Toombul shopping centre to Grange and beyond. If you need any more info, directions etc then just PM me and I will try to help. If you've been before then you should be able to spot us fairly easily, if not then just listen out for the English accents or a tell tale Tesco shopping bag! I'll try to remember to take ours. Hope to see you there. Sharon x
  15. Please note Change of Venue in original opening post. Sharon x

    Australia Day in Brisbane

Checkout the facebook page 'Brisbannittes' as I know there are a couple of families heading to Raby Bay so maybe you could join them. Sx
  17. Meet up is postponed until further notice.
  18. THIS MEET-UP IS BEING POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO THE ON-GOING SITUATION IN BRISBANE AND SURROUNDING AREAS Hello and Happy New Year to one and all, I hope everyone's hangover has now subsided and the New Year resolutions haven't yet been abandoned! We are having the next meet up at the Settlement Cove Lagoon in Redcliffe on 22 January 2011. About Redcliffe - History and Attractions Personally I haven't been to this place yet but it looks pretty promising as it has the lagoon area for swimming and wading, a children's play area, water jets, the beach, picnic areas and bbq's. The address should be on the link above but I think it is Marine Parade, Recliffe, it may also come up on Sat Navs as a point of interest in that area too. If you have been before then just look out for the familiar faces and if you haven't then we usually have a gazebo up, a picnic table and the picnic chairs too. Just listen out for the pommie accents! If anyone has any issues with finding it etc then please do send a message and we will try to help. As usual just try to bring some bbq food and drink, enough for yourselves is fine, and we all pitch in and share. Time wise we should be there from 11am til mid afternoon depending on the weather and how tired the kids are! See you there unless the weather is terrible in which case we will re-arrange! Matt & Sharon Jacob & Isobel xxxxxx
  19. Brisbannittes! The Rocks Riverside Park meet a couple of weeks ago was fantastic. Everyone seemed to have a great time – especially the kids what with all the playground equipment and pools to cool off in! It was another gloriously bright and hot day, so the weather has certainly been on our side! Speaking of which, we’re proposing the next event is on the 27 November at Wellington Point at 11am (so that we can get a good spot), to give the Baysider’s amongst us a more reduced travel time! We’ll advise exact location / address in due course. Once again, we’ll post this on PIO in case we have missed anyone’s email address and also if you know anyone who would like to be included in this email just let us know their email address and we will add them. All the best – and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Matt & Sharon :wideeyed:
  20. We just invented the word and spelled it that way cos we liked it. And the hubby says that if you can find the correct spelling of it in the dictionary we will happily change it. Sx
  21. Well we had an amazing time at the Beach yesterday and thank you so much to everyone who came. It was great fun with lots of new faces. The general consensus was that we should definitely do an xmas based one the weekend before Christmas so that is what we are going to do. I will post up more details nearer the time but the Saturday before Christmas (I think it is the 18th) we will be meeting up in Wynnum at the small water park there, there is also a childrens play park and bbq's. I think we should keep the time the same at 11am. Again this event is open to everyone, and if you've not been to a Brisbannittes meet up before then please do come along and say hi, we would love to meet you. Santa hat is optional! Sharon x
  22. Greetings! Thought I would send this as a little reminder regarding the Wellington Point meet-up on Saturday (tomorrow). I've copied and pasted below the directions previously emailed by Melanie. There's no BBQ's directly in the playground area but it is a short nip to one nearby. There is also a fish'n'chip shop for the less adventurous! Suggest all the kids bring swimmers as the water is very shallow and we can take the walk out to Kings Island across the sandbar. The plan is to meet up at about 11am to ensure that we get a good spot (ie a bbq). As per the last two meet-ups, if everyone could bring something to eat and/or drink we can all pitch in and share, but there is also a fish and chip shop nearby. We don't have a banner or anything to indicate who/where we are, so if you don't know anyone or haven't been to one of the previous meet-ups then pm me if you're having trouble finding us and I can let you have my mobile. Or just try and pick up the pommie accents! We're usually a fairly obvious crowd! As always, we'll post this on PIO And if you're one of the many people who can't come and are going to be at the Ashes then we'll miss you but we hope you have a great day out. Obviously we'll be having a much better day!!!!!! (Jealous... Us....Definitely!!) Looking forward to it and can't wait to meet everyone. Matt & Sharon Jacob & Isobel
  23. Further info on the meeting point from Melanie is below:- Re:27th November meet up. Wellington Point. For all of you intending to attend the 3rd Brisbanittes meet up the details are as follows. There's no BBQ's directly in the playground area but it is a short nip to one nearby. There is also a fish'n'chip shop for the less adventurous! Suggest all the kids bring swimmers as the water is very shallow and we can take the walk out to Kings Island across the sandbar. Looking forward to it! Melanie xx
