  1. A friend of mine runs a playgroup in Cleveland and is keen for new people to join. It is at St James Lutheran Church on Tuesdays at 9.30 am. Just pop along and say hi.
  2. This meet-up is happening again I think on Thursday 4 April, think its generally the first Thursday of each month at the same place. Would be great to see some new faces there, very welcoming and very friendly.
  3. Hi there, I think there is a facebook group called new2northside or something like that - maybe try and find them and see about meeting up for coffee. Quite a few UK people around North Lakes so just keep your eyes tuned for the accents and introduce yourself maybe, that has worked for me a few times. Good luck
  4. PaisleyLass, hello and welcome to Brisbane, sounds like you're settling in great and are really motoring through that 'to do' list. I love the Chermside Westfield centre but I usually get totally lost in there as it is sooooo big, its currently the only place they have the apple store in Brisbane although they are coming to the City soon. regarding the insect bites I use a spray that you can pick up at the chemists which is called 'stingose', its what I've seen the aussies using and I got bit about 4 times just last night and it definitely works in getting rid of the itch and calming down the redness. I've reacted really badly to bites and got totally attacked when we first arrived. Best of luck with the house hunting. Sharon x
  5. Hiya, I have met loads of lovely families through the 'Brisbannittes' facebook page, also, through my sons school too. He is always wanting to go on playdates or has parties to attend and its always good to chat to the other mums. I have also met a lovely friend through taking my daughter to her swimming lessons. It is more difficult when the children are younger but once they get into kindy or play groups etc then it can be easier to make friends. Once you get to the gap keep an eye out at local churches for playgroup dates (we did this and found a playgroup that was lovely and I'm not religious at all). Best of luck with your move, the gap isn't far from where I am in Fig Tree (Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary) and would love to meet up with you for a coffee when you get here. Sharon x
  6. Hello to everyone, I have been here just over 12 months, and have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We are currently living in Fig Tree Pocket having recently moved from Chapel Hill. Sharon x
  7. Whilst not in the Gold Coast, the Brisbannittes meet up once a month in parks around Brisbane and is aimed at families and socialising, would be a great welcome for you. Sx
  8. We moved to Chapel Hill and loved the area, we were right on the edge of Mt Coot-tha Forest and it was very popular with cyclist and walkers, it is a lovely green area and if you pick your house carefully then you should be fine with the cycle route to work etc. Some good schools in that area are Chapel Hill State, Kenmore South State, Indooroopilly State and Kenmore State. I drive on Moggill Rd twice a week and don't find it too bad, but bear in mind that there at going to be roadworks at the Mt Coot-tha end for the next 2 years as they build the Legacy Way tunnel.
  9. Hiya, Just to let you know that there is a 'Brisbannittes' meet up this weekend in Springfield Lakes - It is on Sunday at 11am at Robelle Domain, we will be around the playground area and we have a banner now so should be easily identifiable. There will be quite a few families there from all over Brisbane and we are a lovely welcoming friendly bunch. Sharon x
  10. Wellington Point, Sat 25 June, 11am. The exact address for the sat navs is Main Road, Wellington Point, 4160. Just follow it all the way to the end until you reach the Pacific Ocean! As you drive down into the car park there is a childrens playground to your sharp left (under a huge fig tree and next to the man made beach). Suggest we meet there?. There are no BBQ's directly in the playground area but it is a short nip to one nearby. There is also a fish'n'chip shop for the less adventurous! Or a picnic is always an option. There is a nice long walk to King Island if anyone fancies it depending on weather / tidal timings etc. Hope to see you there
  11. If you are on facebook then have a search for 'Brisbannittes'. All the details of this weekend's meet up and future meet ups are on there. The group is quite varied with a good mix of people. Come along and say Hi, we would love to meet you. And thank you Dolphin Diva for spreading the word, its much appreciated. Sharon x
