  1. A JP wouldn’t do it as they have to say they have known you for at least 12 months. This doesn’t have to be a close buddy but someone who has known you even in a professional capacity who is on the list. We used a friend who is a Physio but our neighbour could have done it as he is a solicitor.

  2. No you can’t renew your Uk license if you are not resident in the UK. it seems UK insurance companies don’t like foreign drivers nowadays. You could speak to your mums insurance to see what they can do but someone posted a while back this was no longer possible for them. Try Virtuo car rental. All on line with an app. We used it last time we were in the UK and it was loads cheaper than even off airport car hire from a local company. They were fine with overseas licence. But you need to register with them ahead of time.

  3. Yup freight charges have gone up again due to attacks in the Red Sea.  The main container ships are now having to take massive detours, taking much longer and therefore costing more.

Destination charges will vary on where you are shipping to.

  4. We have already had one Christmas Day as our eldest, partner and baby came over from Canberra for a week and my youngest and his partner joined us. It was lovely having a houseful but today they all left and I’m exhausted !  Another Christmas Day still to come too!

  5. Have you downloaded the app? You need your my gov log in to access your account online. I can’t remember exactly but the app will take you through it. The app is Medicare expense plus and is green.

  6. The card will be available on the express plus Medicare app long before you get it in the post, especially at this time of year. It actually says it should be available online after you enroll. Worth a try anyway. I tried to link the website but it doesn’t work.

  7. You should be able to get the number or have been given it, that’s all you need.  If you download the Medicare plus app you should be able to link it to my gov and get a digital card too.

  8. Simply apply for the police tests and send them the acknowledgment, book a medical test and inform them of the appointment with evidence. It won’t matter then that the results do not arrive with the time stipulated. You simply need to prove that you have actioned them with the tile limit. Even if your medical appointment is after the 28 days it will be fine. You have no control over appointment availability or processing time and they know this, they just want you to prove you are on with it.

  9. Go back and talk to the bank and see if possible to arrange in advance. Don’t ask the tellers ask to see someone who deals with transfers or overseas customers. You might be able to sort that way. Otherwise you can use an fx firm that will allow you to transfer money over several days. Most do. We always use Wise now they do charge a fee but it works out better than the fee free fx companies I am registered with. The all take a while to register so do this now with a couple so you can compare. The high street banks are usually poorer rates. Do not let the solicitor sort it, they will charge you for the privilege and not bother much about the rates.
Do make sure you report the sake to HMRC within the time limits.

  10. We moved my OH SIPP to AJ Bell about a year ago on the advice of our FA and we are happy enough with the performance and the fees are lower too.  We were and still are Aus resident.  We asked specifically about this as we had heard about issues when we decide to drawdown. The only stipulation is that we keep a UK bank account (which we intend to do ……if allowed!).

Is it not possible to simply self manage your UK SIPP anyway without moving it? We didn’t want to DIY so didn’t ask.

Its only 2 years before they can apply for a 186 now from what i have read (if i read correctly) and last month they also opened up the application to those on the STSOL too as its used to be only medium and long term stream that were elgibile so many more people will now be elgible in proffesions that have shortages.

Only if the employer sponsors them though. Not all are willing to do it.

What other states in their right mind would allow you to simply drive a manual whilst only completing an automatic test. Sounds crazy and dangerous. The skill of driving is very different!

Vic do, unless your license is restricted to A only for a specific reason. To be fair people don’t just get in an automatic for the first time and start commuting.  They would stall it for a start!  Country kids drive old bangers and trucks on their properties as soon as they can reach the pedals and they are usually manual.  My friend used to drive the old car to the gate (on a farm this can be a long way) then get the school bus long before she could legally learn to drive.
Yes the actual mechanics are different but road skills are the same.

  13. In SA at least there is no difference if you pass your test in an automatic you can still drive a manual, though many never do. Unlike in the UK where a manual test allows you to drive automatic but not the other way around.
I used to hate automatics but new ones are much better and now I wouldn’t go back.
