  1. Greetings All,

My Mum and dad are flying out in October from manchester - Abu Dhai then Abu Dhai - Sydney and finally sydney - Brisbane. Dad is gets anxious and is already worried about missing the connecting flight.

i am looking for departure gates that etihad use at Abu Dhai airport so i can point them in the rough area of where their flight is likely to depart from. I know if this flight goes wrong they will never come back.

I miss my mum and dad so much that I want this to go smoothly

Ive looked on the airport website and their is little information. Yes i can book the meet and greet but i would be much happier spending the $250 on them once they are here.

    Thanks in advance.

This is a happy thread please people

  2. I used to live in Kirkham which is about 10miles away from Blackpool. I now live on the Gold coast, Ashmore first now Currumbin waters. I love how people compare Blackpool and Surfers. It must be the fact that both towns have big towers and there is always a chance that you might get caught by a shark.

I would look in to the possibility of work before making any choice, work is very slow on the Gold coast at the min but if you’re in the building trade then the future might be bright as the commonwealth games and the possible cruise ship terminal will bring a lot of work for the next few years or so.

We are finding it difficult to change jobs at the min as to do so would mean having to move to Brissy which I am happy to do, it just means moving the kids out of a great school.

The sunshine coast is great to, in its more laid back way. It’s a bit like Cleethorpes (as we are comparing places)

My advice would be sign only 6 month rental agreements and then if you don’t like an area move, and keep moving until you are happy.

  3. We found most of our fronds after signing the kids up to a soccer club, now we all play and have made some excellent friends. Once the soccer season ended we started little athletics and just got involved helping at the events (we are no normally keen on pushing ourselves ) it is great. We have found friend that we can put emergency contacts now as when we first arrived 9 months ago we had no one. Hang in their friends are waiting for you to introduce yourself. Don't be shy.

  4. Hi we are breaking the lease on our house in Ashmore on the gold coast, The current lease is due to end in March. The house is a three bed town house on the broni estate, Cotlew street. This might be useful to anyone moving to the gold coast that wants a short term rental till they find their feet. This link shows one of the houses on the estate (they are all much alike) http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-ashmore-106447713

Please contact me if you need any details or pass on to anyone that might be interested. The property is unfurnished.

  5. We have had a lovely summer - not too many mega hot days but the English weather has come back with a vengeance. Thank god we move to Queensland on Thursday...then I;m sure I'll be moaning about the humidity!

It's not so warm here right now either unless you are going up north, we have only been here 4 months and we are feeling the cold. :ssign2:

  6. Yes Ship everything, I thing you are looking at around £3000 for a sole use container but that is nothing when you have to start replacing stuff. We didn't bring everthing and kind of regret it now. we have used Amart for furniture and Kmart for homeware which are the cheap'o shops. I shared a container and as a result of that I still am waiting for my stuff that left my house in the U.K on the 8th Feb. not impressed. Also make sure you get every company you consider round to quote as we didn't, we just took the word of a few co's and then phoned asking how much xxcubic mtrs would cost when they came to collect the stuff they said we had double what we had paid for and had to decide what to leave. not nice. would I use the co I used again. I'll tell you when my stuff arrives. Unless you want to know now......... then you will have to P.M me, cos I would never name and shame.

  7. Just cook a roast dinner inside that warms the house up. How's it going. Fantastic you will love it, enjoy your time that you have in the UK though. I don't miss the UK at all only a few people. It's funny who keeps in touch once you move you will be surprised.

  8. Good to see the grants still coming in congratulations to everyone. I was from the part 1 of this thread and have been in aus for nearly 3 months now, hang in their everyone it is worth the wait.

Good luck and keep that waiting room tidy.

  9. Hello All,

Thought I would poke my nose in and say hello and tell you all what we have been up to since we got our visa.

I got offered a job a week ago and I start the middle of February. We leave the U.K on 8th on the one way flights. We have booked arrival accommodation at a holiday village on the gold coast, so from their we will find a rental and start our new lives down under. sorting everything out is quite stressfull and seems to take over your mind so be perpaired for some more sleepless nights.

It all works out in the end.

  10. Hi Tania,

If no one else wants to do it, I dont mind keeping the thread and spreadsheet updated.

    Well done Bpremji,

This thread is a life line for so many Tania started a fab thing here and it has been kept up to date brilliantly.

I know you will do an excellent job in keeping the thread running. I am glad that someone has taken it over.

I didn’t cos I’ve got my visa and will soon be moving as well.

Maybe we could do a cat 4 the sequel or cat 4 where are you now. Just so those that have visas and are moving can discuss and let people know how you’re getting on. We could keep it on the cat 4 thread but there is nothing worse than Yerr lets meet up for a bbq on the beach under the scorching sun, when you are sat in the front window of your house franticly checking the visa application while watching the rain batter the for sale board.

    Just a thought.

  11. how did the phone interview go Anlopa? Good i hope!

It went well. I hope!!!! :notworthy:A few things I will say is if you go for an interview or have an interview make sure you know your C.V inside out and any of the abbrev's that you use ensure you remember what they mean.:GEEK: In the interview they didn't question my mechanical ability:wacko: it was all about behavioural questions:wub: - examples if when you have experienced a situation. Think STAR - situation, task, action, result. Write down and rehearse situations as that formed the whole of the interview. :chatterbox:

Before the interview I checked my emails and another company who I have been in contact with had sent me an email asking if I was still interested in an interview. So fingers crossed I might just have a job to go to:wubclub:. The only thing that could be better is to sell the house. Anyone want a house.:jiggy:

  12. Update from me, we have got a buyer!!! for our house I'm just in the process now of going through the deal so more stress over the next 6 weeks or so.

I wanted to know if anyone wanted to take over this thread as in the next couple of weeks I think things will start to get busy for, I will make sure who ever would like to take over get access some how to the front page, please let me know if you are interested.

    Tania

    Congratulations Tania,

And thank you. You have done a fantastic job and brought a lot of friends together. I hope that I stay friends with everyone that I have met on this thread.

I hope that someone comes along soon and takes over as this thread has been a life line for a lot of us.

Good luck Tania and thank you :wubclub:

  13. Can anyone let me know what seems to be the standard waiting time between having given all the requested information and obtaining the grant letter??

We were allocated our CO on 19 Oct and they requested the Form 80, PCC and some extra employment info whihc we uploaded on the 9 Nov (we have already uploaded our medicals in May). I thought by this stage we would have gotten the grant email:confused: and keep getting worried that there must be some problem - otherwise why the delay. Aaagh!! Hate all this waiting!!!!!:arghh:

The wait is horrid, I waited 9 weeks from meds being finalised so co's put a review date on the file if you don't have an agent, call diac and say everything has been uploaded might just nudge your co in the right direction.
