hi - i have a positive assessment as a Building Associate and an overall 7.5 IELTS - can i come over on holiday and look for employer sponsorship? If so where would you suggest I look for a Building Foreman role - looking at WA, QLD, SA. Any help or advice is greatfully received. Cheers

IELTS being a problem but hoping my re-marking will come back at a better level. I have over 20 years experience on various building projects ...............................hoping for positive feedback.............

Our agent charges for each part - so we paid him to do the skills assessment part, then once we have passed IELTS and go forward for visa there will be another payment - totallying £1800. IELTS Test cost between £125 and £140 depending on where you go, then as you say cost of the Visa. You could do it all yourselves but we went with an agent because our case was a bit difficult...............Good Luck

Hi - yes its defo on the skills wanted list - I have worked in Brisbane before so am familiar with australia codes of practice - but you're right I should have another look. I have searched and applied all places - seek career one, Leighton, Laing Orourke etc..........

H Hi - I was offered the 457 LA through DownunderPlacements - paid an admin fee £275 but was never asked to get Vetassess or IELTS [we already have them anyway] - and as you say haven't heard anything from them. However OBI responded this morning saying they never made any promises and can only sponsor a 457 visa once a job has been offered. The market has well and truly slowed down in Oz so it will take a lot longer to get there i'm afraid. Did WWR make promises?

Hi - Construction foreman. I am a time served carpenter but now a Site Manager in the UK, aged 43 - so young enough for a visa.

Nothing concrete from them. I dont believe we should put all our eggs in one basket. We have done our own vetasses and IELTS and looking to get a WA sponsored visa. It all takes time but dont give up hope.

Yes i agree doing the labour hire company job for them but what choices are there if they are struggling to find employers we have to try everything we can. Just one point we weren't asked to get skills assessed - luckily because we are also applying for our own visa we have had that done but it wasn't one of the requirements for the 457. The fee paid was an admin charge I understand ......

I have just had a response to say the job market has changed over there and jobs in my area - construction - are going more to Australians but OBI are negotiating positions at the moment for people who have been offered 457 LA. They can't, by law, apply for the visa until a job offer has been secured. However, candidates can source their own jobs and refer the company to OBI. They have said 'hang on in there'!!!

I've just written to them to check out dates etc. Also just a reminder that its a bit more laid back in Australia - you will get there in the end. Isn't this one of the reasons for moving - a more laid back, less stress, lovely outdoor lifestyle yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi yes things have gone quiet spose they are sorting jobs etc. But now they have the floods to deal with.

Hi - we are the same - you don't have to source your own job as OBI will look at jobs for you, but you can look at jobs yourself and tell the company that you have an offer of an LA - they can offer you employment through OBI then. We didn't realise it was 20th March deadline - thought it was end of March - eeeek!! Good luck - wots your profession? Cheers

Sorry - i've not been clear. The 457 Labour Agreement is for me - its in with DIAC at the moment and under that I can be taken on as a Construction Foreman with any company who are willing to take me under the 457 LA which is being obtained by a recruitment company based in Brisbane - they will be my employer. But i can still look for companies to sponsor me direct or even gain my own visa. Cheers

Hi - well there is good and bad but we are trying to move back to Oz because of the economy. We cant earn what we could in Australia - enough to keep on our house on in UK and rent over there and have a gr8t life so we're going back. Think about it for a long long time............... cus we regretted returning to UK

I sat my IELTS also on 1st Dec - hoping to get 7s in each part as I just got a positive assessment from Vetassess - just wanna get my visa sorted now.............. woooo hooo
