Blewyn
Looking for a new tent so we can go camping Aussie Style - ie out of a car, with plenty of room and cover from the rain. Seen a few brands and a wide range in prices - does anyone have a recommendation ?

calNgary
Black Wolf are good quality and they do various shapes and sizes. Coleman is another brand who seem to make quality stuff. Have a look at Anaconda on line we bought our last one from there and couldnt fault it.. Cal x

blossom
Jacaroo are not bad in the cheaper ranges. Just don't buy from rays outdoors. After less than two weeks one of our poles broke and they refused to do anything about it as 'the poles are not guaranteed as they are not part of the tent'. Worst customer service I have ever received. We have been looking at one of the roof top tents from tigerz11. Pricey but apparently good. kdyer12
Looking for a new tent so we can go camping Aussie Style - ie out of a car, with plenty of room and cover from the rain. Seen a few brands and a wide range in prices - does anyone have a recommendation ? Depends on what you are using it for, where you are travelling in Australia and how much you want to spend. We have 3 tents that we use for different things, a Black Wolf 6 man tent that we take out if we are going to be at the same site for more than a few days. It's comfortable, roomy, built for Australian conditions and we have been in this tent when it has rained continuously for days and it never let in a single drop. Black Wolf tents cost though, about 1300 dollars, but it is made of rip stop canvas with high quality mozzie screen doors and windows. We have a roof top tent that we plonk on the fourby, for when we are off roading. Great if you are a bit worried about snakes crocs etc, and very comfortable. Again, these are rip stop and are good in very hot States. Downside is getting up and down the ladder to visit theloo in the night. Upside, you can camp almost anywhere. These cost from around 1100 dollars, and you can buy all sorts of addons. Our third tent is an umbrella tent. Called so because all the fibre glass poles are integral and you just snap it open. Great to throw in the boot for a quick night under the stars. WE only use it when the weather is guaranteed to be good, but we do have the flysheet just in case. It takes up no room and is very light, cost about 300 dollars and about 80 for thr flysheet

kdyer12
Google Tigers11, they are a discount 4 by 4 company, they do just about the best deal.
Blewyn
I eventually got a Black Wolf 240 Turbo Lite. Tent setup around 15 mins I reckon, once you know what you're doing. Most of this is time taken by putting up the flysheet. One design drawback is that the tent MUST be pegged down, to tension/compress the frame correctly - so what do you do on hard ground ? Am used to camping on mountains and just throwing rocks in each corner of the tent. Nice and big though !!
