Guest kate1973
Hi everyone, Just got news from the vet, 2 of my three dogs haven't passed the blood test on Rabies. I am getting them vaccinated again tommorow, I am now really worried that they will be immune for the vacination, the vet said this has never happened before! Does anyone else have this experience? basil
MY understanding of how it all works is... dog gets a dose of vaccine, ie a small amount of rabies dog builds up antibodies to vaccine dog has blood tested and needs sufficient antibodies to pass. if dog fails then it has not had enough vaccine to generate a good immue response - ie it didnt have enough antibodies. So another vaccine is needed to generate more antibodies (to then pass blood test). 1 of my dogs passed after 1 vaccine, the other needed 2. It is quite common in the UK for vets to give 2 vaccines now before doing the blood test. Does that answer your worry? Sorry for listing it out, but that's just my understanding of it all and so I dont think you have anything to worry about. The blood test you have had shows the dogs are not sufficiently immune, so there should be no issue with the 2nd vacc
