Any substantial amount and I would certainly use a FOREX company. If you still have a UK bank account it is so easy to exchange money with them and at a better exchange rate than any bank could offer. Hi I used HIFX and MONEYCORP prior to returning to the UK, if your looking to exchange more than $5000 you will get closer to the interbank rate, and also the more money you change the better the rate.
