457 sponsorship through labour hire company

Just wondered if anyone has had experience of being sponsored by a labour hire company on a 457? It also means that any prospective employer wouldn't have the hassle of sorting out a sponsorship licence etc, but they do take a % of salary for being a sponsor. Was maybe thinking that this would be a route in with a view to then applying for pr at a later date.

I thought you could only be sponsored through a registered company who needs your skills, Not an agency who want money from you. To be honest I do not like the sound of it..

I hope someone with experience of these visas will be along to give a more informed answer.

Prospective Employers of 457 Candidates have to be employed by the Department :

[h=1]Step 1 - Employer Applies to be a Sponsor[/h]From 14 September 2009, when you apply for sponsorship you will no longer be required to nominate the number of positions you want to sponsor. If your application is approved, you will be able to nominate overseas workers under the Subclass 457 visa program for three years. After this period, if you want to continue to sponsor overseas workers under the Subclass 457 visa program, you must make a new sponsorship application.

Gday

Labour hire companies almost never sponsor for PR. For as long as you are sponsored by them you are their cash cow, earning them about 15% of your salary. Why would they ever sponsor you for PR , allowing you to jump ship to work elsewhere and force on them a new recruitment cost? IF they ever did write it into your employment contract that they would sponsor for PR, make sure it is not a company set up for a limited purpose ie to provide labour for construction project about to end, in which case you'll be made redundant first and then your 457 needs another sponsor.... It's high risk and expensive to go through a LH company, and you get treated like a temp. And if you want to complain about anything...
