My husband is currently looking into state sponsorship in Canberra, ACT. As part of our visa application we have to estimate living costs. Is anyone able to help with costs like gas/electric, water rates. Also, is there an equivalent of Council Tax? I've already looked into rental properties and have a rough idea on these. Popular areas for a young family (our son is 2) and easy commute into CBD would be good as well.

If it was me, then I would definitely still go. Sometimes things have to fall apart to fall into place! You've been given the opportunity so take it. If it doesn't work out in the end, then at least you tried and you won't regret having not tried. Good luck, all the best and I really hope it works out for you and your children.

I came across Geoffrey Nathan and they can offer a temporary 457 visa. They act as your sponsor and then when you find a job then that company will employ you through Geoffrey Nathan.

Just wondered if anyone has used the labour agreement route to secure sponsorship and then looked for a job once out in Oz.

My husband, Paul, has over 12 years experience as a graphic designer. We have been emailing agencies direct and applying for positions, but nothing as yet. Can you or do you know someone who could offer him sponsorship? We don't even mind where we land up as long as it's somewhere in Australia! Trying to remain hopeful but it's so hard when you want something so badly. If you can help or point us in the right direction then thank you so much. Hoping that one day we will be living in Oz.

I managed 10, but that's ok cos planning to emigrate to Oz anyway!!

Just wondered if anyone has had experience of being sponsored by a labour hire company on a 457? It also means that any prospective employer wouldn't have the hassle of sorting out a sponsorship licence etc, but they do take a % of salary for being a sponsor. Was maybe thinking that this would be a route in with a view to then applying for pr at a later date.

Thanks for your view. We're at the very beginning of trying to emigrate and we're hoping to land up near Brisbane, as we have friends in Wynnum and down in Burleigh Waters. Husband is looking for work as need to come out on a 457. We're out again in November so maybe have a look for jobs when we're on the ground. Things in the UK aren't great at the mo, and Australia has so much more to offer.
