Worlo24
Hi all, new to the forum! Probably the age old post, everyone wants to know the nice affordable places to live in big cities. Myself, girlfriend and two other friends are moving to oz in January 2013. We have been looking on the net and was just wondering if anyone could help us out. We want to live in a nice affordable suburb in Melbourne in a 2/3 bed house, preferably quite close to the beach. Any recommendations? Alsodoes anyone know who is responsible for council tax in oz, the tenant or landlord, we only intend to rent for the initial year. Many thanks
JoandJon
The landlord pays the rates (as it's called over here). Affordable & close to the beach & nice are a little bit tricky - We're in Narre Warren which is affordable, and is actually pretty nice, but it's a good 20-30 minute drive to the beach (depending on traffic). The best bet is to figure out where you're likely to be working and make sure you can get there easily - close to train station etc is a good idea. Also one person's idea of 'nice' isn't anothers!! (you might want bars and clubs, whereas I'm more after parks, quiet etc) For public transport check out http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au, Good choice of cities though
Worlo24
Thanks for the information. Myself and girlfriend are both teachers so we are going to be doing the CRT for a while until we find something more permanent, so good transport links are essential really. We're looking forward to the move!
