lillystar26
Hi, I have read and re read information about visa's and think i have just confused myself. :err: A little info; My husband is 36 and works with caterpillar engines but unfortunately has no formal qualification so we are hoping to move on a 457. we also have 3 children 4,2 & 1. My question is; what is the process of this visa ie; the order in which it all happens...obviously starting from a job offer... and the average time frames as we also have a house to sell. thanks in advance vix
Guest oldmarried
Well it would normally start before the job offer. 1. The sponsoring employer would need to become approved to sponsor applicants. 2. The the position needs to be nominated as needing to be filled by an overseas application 3. The applicant applies to fill the role. 2 & 3 can be done concurrently after the job offer has been made but 3 can't be done before 2. We are expecting our process to take about 5 weeks since accepting the offer.
lillystar26
Thanks for that. The employer interested has sponsored previously. I was kinda meaning the whole process as in documents, contracts, medicals, will we need an agent....etc.... What order does it go in? Do we need a skills assessment? I take it you already have a job offer? Congratulations. Where are u heading? Have you got a house to sell?
Guest Ei6d9oj
Hi we are currently over here on a 457 visa. Ours was quite a painless process! Medicals- we didn't have to have any , although a friend that I have made since being here had to have one but she has ongoing medical problems. House- we didn't have to worry about selling ours as we are renting it ( out as security really ) and are renting out here. The visa didn't seem to take long to come through about 2 weeks once all our evidence was in and all the questions answered on the forms. If you have any questions about any of the process just ask will help out as best I can

What evidence do you have to send and did you have to have a skills assessment or do you not have that if you have a relevant qualification? Guest guest57545
I came out on a 457 visa. If the company has previously sponsored overseas applicants and you are not working with children or in the health profession (seems your husband will not be) then it should be very straight forward. My employer had never sponsored before and so my visa took over 6 months (we had trouble with the proof of training other staff members criteria). I dont think that you need formal qualifications but the company would need to demonstrate a need for you which cannot be mmet by any australian applicant. In my case this was easy as i have specialised software knowledge which no applicant in oz had. If he fancied working in the mining area servicing? cat engines etc i would say it would be an easy move
