supa
I read that you can claim a tax allowance against your UK rental when moving to Oz. Can anyone tell me please exactly what you can claim ie, agents fees etc. Also I seem to remember you can do something with flights - urban myth? Many thanks. Alan Collett
Which tax return are you referring to - UK or Australia? In any event costs such as agent fees, interest on a mortgage, costs of repairs, costs of tenancy agreements - and even the fees of an accountant (must be a registered tax agent when claiming in Australia) - are tax deductible in both countries. Costs of flights to inspect the property - tread carefully, as there is almost always a dual purpose to a trip to the UK. Some of the cost might be capable of being claimed: take (paid for) professional advice. Best regards.
