Guest ScottK
Hi, welcome to Darwin. We have been here about 3 years now and love it. As others have noted, it does rain most days, but that is only for 6 months of the year. Once you get to May, it WON'T rain for about 6 months. Seriously, if there is a spot of rain in July/August, it makes the front page of the NT news. It is also a little cooler and a lot less humid during the dry and that is when the city comes to life. Coming from the UK, it is great to be able to plan to do something at the weekend and be 99.99% certain that it will be dry. Apart from the weather, the other thing that will probably blow your mind is the sheer emptiness of the territory and the distances to anywhere else. It is about 300kms to the nearest town (Katherine - birthplace of Cadel Evans for any cycling fans out there!) and about 1500kms, or about a 14 hour drive to the next city (Alice Springs). Mr Fabricator
about 1500kms, or about a 14 hour drive to the next city (Alice Springs). Yep it's certainly " sparse" , im going from Darwin down to ayres rock ( 1200 kms ) and back up again , then when down in SA im heading north upto alice , lots and lota and lots of miles to be covered :-) Will certainly have some quality thinking time :-) lee

From the Darwin to the Alice is 1500 km and from the Alice to Uluru is another 460 km. You have to go through the Alice to get to Uluru, why bother with a second trip from Sarf Australia? Cheers, Bobj.
