Where in Queensland?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice please.

I'm thinking on embarking on a new life in Queensland but not sure where would suit me. I'm a nurse so getting a job would be no problem hopefully.

I'd want to buy a house eventually (around $180 k) and Brisbane looks too expensive. What other towns might be fun? I'm 43 and single so I don't want to live somewhere that's too family orientated.

I've heard that mining towns would be good for a single gal!

I'm not too bothered about the heat - I did spent the height of summer in Houston so I'm guessing it's about the same temperature and humidity.

I'm heading out for a 3 week holiday soon.

Many thanks

Cath

Hi Cath,

Bumping this post up for you.

I am also chuckling @ Mining towns, single girls etc... yes it is very nice being in the minority in a mining town, the possibilities of being spoilt are for certain there lol.

Also have a word with Bobj (member) and Itcouldbeworse (Kev/member) they might give you some good ideas also.

Good luck.

G'day mate, SS certainly knows how to get the old blokes going...

For the amount of money you mention, it would be an outback town and not too progressive at that!

Might I suggest that you look to country towns like Longreach, The World (Charters Towers, nth Qld, gold mining), Miles, Bowen, Mt Isa,(copper/lead), Proserpine etc...towns from 10,000 to 30,000 population.

All these are quite progessive and have very good, if somewhat small shopping centres. But they all offer good services, commensurate to their size.

Personally, Bowen, or Proserpine...they're close to the Great Barrier Reef.

Cheers, Bobj.

I think its generally possible for a single girl to be spoilt anywhere in queensland... but the far north is the best spot for sure, from the cassowarry coast upwards is pure tropical bliss, a house from townsville up to cairns wont break the bank, all the small towns have some sort of hospital going on.
