Mhags
okay, moving to Melbourne in just over 2 weeks, we have not sold house yet and do not want to rent out. Phoned home insurers today to ask about cover for household insurance, probably buildings only. So, it seems , when house has been empty for more than 30 days, we are hardly covered for anything. Not this, not that! Anyone else encountered this. We are with Aviva at the moment. Do certain Insurers have certain policies that would give us better cover. The way current housing market in our area I would be very surprised if we sell & be occupied within 30 days of emigrating. Hope you can help. mhags

Daffod1lly
We left ours empty but gave ourselves a deadline at which time we would then rent it out - though this was something we didn't want to do. We had a house sale going through when we emigrated (this was our second attempt due to first sale falling through) but it fell through one more time before we eventually sold. We were with direct line home insurance and we had a max of 60 full cover and after that we would be then left with basic buildings contents only. Think this may well be the most anyone might offer - but not sure. Difficult decision ..... but probably better choice to rent it out if possible. With all that house selling entails, the chances of house sales falling through offers additional stress during the early days of emigration. However, we managed it and coped - just suppose you do if that's the choice you make. Good luck
