Hi everyone i have been coming on this website everyday now for nearly 2 months as i went for a job interview with an firm in QLD and i have just heard today that i got it!!!!! so now the visa application starts - i know i have still got ages to go but i couldnt hold back any longer

ill be relocating to Mackay so i just wanted some thoughts from those of you in the know about the place!

Im a 28, soon to be 29 female!!, and ill be coming over alone as my fella here has to stay on to finish his studies so i need to know what areas of Mackay good and which im best off avoiding! he will be joining me this time next year but until then .......

i like going out and having a drink and would really love to live near a beach if possible so can anyone out there let me know where would be best or if the best place in or around mackay isnt near a beach that would be ok as long as its not too far from one! i have been stuck here in grey manchester for far too long!!!

i am sure i will have loads of questions for you all re migrating and the visa etc but thought id kick off with this one!

hopefully one of you will be able to help me!!!

Don't know much about the place apart from the sort of info you can get on Google earth, real estate etc. Anyway, just thought I'd say congrats on the job and good luck in the future in Oz.

Hi, I seem to be in a very similar predicament to you. I have applied for a job in Queensalnd aswell, my application has been successful so far and my prospective employers are now just checking my references so it is looking positive.

The firm I applied to have offices all over so I've making enquiries for a while about various destinations. I have a friend who has been to Mackay and she says it is beautiful but not as commercialised as other areas. Apparently it is more of a cafe culture and the beaches are beautiful. I should imagine it is easier on the eye that Didsbury or Fallowfield!!

I'm trying to decide where to live as I too will be moving out alone as my girlfriend has to stay in the UK until April next year when she will qualify as a solicitor. Mackay is a potential option for me also so I'd appreciate any news or good websites that you find out about.

Congrats on getting the job!

Hi all,

I have been to the Mackay area on holiday not actually stayed in Mackay but in nearby Airlie Beach. This area is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and is mainly Backpacker lead. Saying that there is lots of bars/cafes in that area. No beach tho even tho its names Airlie Beach! They have a manmade Lagoon.

It is a lovely area altho can get very hot and humid in Summer.

Good Luck.

Em x
