Jo_uktooz
There's two scales of thought on this, from an immigration point of view the answer is no as a UK national can be immigration cleared on entry to the UK by presenting a passport which had expired up to 12 months ago, however many airlines will refuse to uplift passengers with passports that do not have a minimum 6 months validity at the conclusion of the trip, this is because airlines can be,and often are fined for carrying passengers with incomplete documentation, however in the case of a one way journey with a clear right of entry to the UK you probably wouldn't have a problem.
