Guest jarnie
Could anybody tell me if 2 British citizens go to Australia and there baby is born there does this automatically make the new baby an australian citizen and would this then give automatic rights to the British citizens to have dual citizenship? Thanks
Les Mighalls
The child follows the citizenship of the parents unless they have PR status in which case the child may be entitled to dual citizenship. For example, if they are on temporary visas eg 457, WHV etc then the child does not have Australian citizenship. There is no automatic right to Australian citizenship through birth of a child here.
