Guest pj
Is there anyone out there who is good on tax in the UK? We moved out last January and it just occurred to me that we may be due some money back on tax for the time we worked in the UK as sometimed employers guess what your tax bracket is going to be rather than getting hit with 40% every month at the end of the tax year if you hit the higher threshold. Might not be due anything but something back from the tax man is better than nothing. Thanks Pj xxx
Guest gail.crease
Hi PJ If you left the country in the middle of the tax year you will more than likely be owed some tax especially if you are a 40% tax payer. Most people who are 40% tax payers complete a self assessment. If you do then you will get a rebate when you complete this. If not, then contact the inland revenue. There is a helpline number on their website and they will advise you on what to do. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ Regards Gail
Guest pj
Thanks Gail If anyone else is interested, when you leave the UK and haven't worked a whole tax year, it is likely you are due some form of tax rebate. You can apply for this before you leave or when you've settled elsewhere. Make sure you keep your P45s and P60's just in case. Form P85 is the one you need, http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/p85_p85s.htm There are some companies who will do this for you (if you are already abroad) but charge 10-15%. This could be quite a lot of dollars depending on what you're owed. Pj
