zhmajumder
I got the information that while the waiting for the result of 143 (Contributory Permanent Parent visa) from 173 (Contributory Temporary Parent visa), we could apply for Bridging visa. The Bridging Visa (BVA) will effective when 173 expires. But my question is: does the BVA also allow applicant to continue/renew the Medicare card? or while they are in BVA they will not be eligible to get Medicare for the interim period (until approve the 143). It will be helpful if someone give information with the relevant URL link (if any) of public website. Thanks.
Chelspalms
I believe you are eligible for Medicare if you are awaiting a decision on a permanent visa if your bridging visa allows you to work. https://www.immiaustralia.com.au/are-you-eligible-for-medicare/ explains it a bit more here
zhmajumder
Thanks. But the last point is confusing "you have not applied for a parent visa". In fact they applied for 143 (Contributory Permanent Parent visa).
Chelspalms
Ah I see. Seems a bit confusing regarding parent and contributory parent visas. Another link here but doesn’t actually give you a yes or no answer. Your best bet is to go into a Medicare office and ask! https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/enablers/who-can-get-medicare-card
zhmajumder
Thanks again. The link is helpful. It seems they might have chance to get Medicare. I will visit Medicare and will ask the details.
MAKhan
Hi Zhmajumder,My wife came to Australia on visa 173. We applied for visa 143. She had to go abroad on BV. Her Medicare remained active during this period.
zhmajumder
Thanks MAKhan. What step do you follow to get Medicare in BV period? Did u contected medicare office before 173 expire or after that? MAKhan
For Visa 173, Medicare office provide you Medicare card that is renewable. Your card will be active during your BV period. If it expire you talked to Medicare office they will issue you a new one and it takes 4 or 5 days to receive the new one.
