Question-Regional Sponsored (subclass 489)

Hello All

Good day. I hope you are doing fine. I have a question related to visa 489 and would really appreciate your answers

I was granted Skilled - Regional Sponsored (subclass 489) visa by Queensland back in November 2014. I made my first entry in Australia back in April 2015. Due to some family issues and work commitments, I haven’t been able to permanently move to Australia till now but now I have decided to move to Australia in spring. My Australian visa (SP-489) has validity until 19 November 2018 so I want to clarify following concerns related to my visa

Will the same visa (SP-489) be extended in November 2018 in order for me to complete two year time in the regional area of the province or do I need to apply for some other visa category (for example any bridging visa or resident return visa etc)?

Can I apply for visa 887 which I believe is the next visa issued after my 489 expires in November 2018 or do I need to complete mandatory 2-year time on SP-489 before applying for 887?

Thank you very much for your time and answer.

Have a nice day

Hi Verystormy

Good day. Thanks a lot for your reply.

Just another question, I heard that RRV (Resident return visa) is only applicable for PR (Permanent residency) visa types while 489 is TR (Temporary residency) so it is not applicable in this case is it true?

Thanks again for your time and support

Have a nice day

We have just had to ask an agent about this as we have the same situation and are only a couple of months short of completing our 489 requirements unfortunately we were told we would have to reapply for it all over again as we would find ourselves been deported when it expires as there is nothing to bridge a 489 without completing requirements!

Hi Mr&MrsB

Good day. I hope you are doing fine. Thank you so much for sharing the information. I heard the same information and I was really sad about it and that's why I wanted to confirm. Unfortunately, I also heard that regional skilled is not offered anymore. Thanks again and good luck to you

Take care and have a nice day.
