Even though I'm old I still go to school (as a specialist teacher's aide!) and although it's really hard to do...I would say a big 'Don't worry!'. Kids here have much the same interests as kids over there - Pokemon, YuGiOh!, Dr Who, sport and junk food! School is a bit more relaxed and the kids get out to play sport/go for walks on the beach (if you are near a beach), in the park (if you are near a reserve) as part of their daily routine. You'll still have to work hard, but it can still be fun. History here means learning about the gold rush, the first fleet and bushrangers...much more fun! Maths is still er..maths though! Then there are the public holidays which have special things happening on them, the Show, brilliant days out, trips with the school...it's all good. Whenever there's a new kid at school, everyone is really interested to find out what they are like and whether they will be a new best friend. After a while the novelty wears off and the new kid has become an old kid and has found at least one good mate to hang around with. I probably haven't helped much...but if it's any help at all, my kids settled in pretty quickly and loved it here from day one.
