Parent visas - just a thought?

Hi guys. Just wondered when looking at posts about parent visas what options my own mum would have.

My OH, myself and 2 kids have recently applied for 175 visa. My sister has since mentioned it is something she may look into in a couple of years (high school teacher - so would imagine would be able to get 175 too). The question I have is, IF my mum wanted to come, with her husband (our step-father), could she? She's 55 (nurse) and he's 58 (teacher). He has 3 sons so wondered if that messes up the ratio thing of how many kids live in Oz? Or, would they only take into account my mum's kids and let him in with her?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Hello Rach

Unfortunately, when they assess a couple for the Balance of Family Test, the children of each Parent are counted as the children of both Parents if both Parents are still alive and still together. If you were to bump Step-dad off then his sons would no longer count in relation to Mum, but that is a bit of a drastic solution and it is also likely to interfere with somebody’s liberty!

Have you looked at the Investor Retirement visa? If not, it is here:

That said, is Mum a practising, full-time nurse? If she is then she just might be eligible for an ENS visa, because of the age-exemption which is potentially possible with that:

Or possibly an RSMS visa:

I think it is probably a long shot, but it might be worth asking a couple of reputable Migration Agents whether the idea would be a potential goer or not. You really need to find an RMA who has succeeded on behalf of a nurse of Mum’s age, I suspect.

Nursing Agencies and hospitals in Oz might be the best people to ask at this stage, I would guess. This link might help:

Even if they are encouraging though, I think there would be no time to lose and Mum would really have to press on with it quickly.

Best wishes

Thank you so much for that Gill. Will look into all of the above. Damn my step-brothers!!! Only joking!

Can I just say that I have read many of your posts and they are always full of detailed, helpful information. You must spend a great deal of time helping others. It's very much appreciated
