Applying for visa 189 as Industrial Engineer but with potentially unrelated work experience

Recommended Posts

Looking for anyone who can shed some light on my predicament.

I am a graduate of BSc and MSc in Industrial Engineering (currently holding a 476 visa because of that), however my work experience after graduation is in Usability (Human Factors), which is just a small subset or sub-specialization of Industrial Engineering. Hence, it is rather uncommon for IEs to practice usability, but believe me, it is a very interesting field.

I plan to apply for a 189 visa as my path to residency after my 476 visa expires but I am worried that in my skills assessment, Engineers Australia might not recognize my work experience as being in line with my educational qualification.

What should I do? Should I risk spending for skills assessment given this uncertainty? And has anyone been in a similar situation?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
