Skills Transfer

Hi we will be making the move in 2 years, to Queensland me on a partner my visa.

My partner has lived in Uk for 28 years but is an Australian citizen. He has been working at the same place for 13 years but doesn't have any paperwork. He is a mechanic and car body repairer, is there any way of transferring his skills before we go or once over there? I keep going round in circles on the internet.

Many thanks for any help

Hi cuddles and welcome to the forum. Have a look at your partner doing an RPL. There is some info here http://www.asg.edu.au/trade-recognition-rpl/ I know nothing about the company and you can miss them out completely and contact TAFE direct.

What I would recommend is looking at an equivalent TAFE course so Car Mechanics Light Vehicle at Cert 3, here is the link to the course. Now sit down and look at all the units of the course https://www.myskills.gov.au/courses/details?Code=AUR30612 so for this one you have 20 core subjects (this means they are compulsory) and 16 electives so you can choose any 16. Click on each one and see if your partner is competent in that unit, he will need to show proof, this can be via references, customers feedback, other qualifications or they may even ask you to show them. When I did my RPL it was for a Cert IV at the time and basically I showed photos, certificates, CV and reference. They then organised a day to meet with me and asked me questions on different scenarios and checked if I was competent in that unit. I passed with no problems and received a certificate without doing any of the course. If I had failed one of the units questions she asked I would have had to study that unit. You wouldn't pay the full price for the course only the units you failed and once passed your certificate would be awarded. Hope this helps.
