Address in Australia for dog shipping forms?

Pet shipping forms ask for an address and phone number in Australia but we dont have one yet? They said they cant book the flight for my 2 dogs without that info but we wont have an address and phone number till we get there. We are planning to stay in a hotel or short term rental for 2 weeks while we look for a long term rental. How did other people get round this? I love my dogs but am tearing my hair out with all the stuff that has to be done!

Are you using Petair?

If you are you can fill it out as TBC on their online system to begin with.

You will need to supply the short term address that you are staying at before they book the flights.

Yes am using petair scotland, but they told me they cant book a flight until they have the details. I want the flights booked fairly soon as I need the dogs to be dropped off at petair the same day we fly, and I am worried they wont be able to do that if we leave it too late. They said there needs to be someone there whose address and phone number we can use, so dont know how to get round that.

Im just finding the whole thing so confusing and I honestly feel like crying. I feel like I cant book my flights until I know the dogs can go the same day but the shipper cant seem to tell me that until they get the forms and deposit and check with quarantine and book dogs flights, and by them our flights might be sold out. Aaarggh.

I dont have anyone there, all my family is here and its been 8 years since I was in Australia, the few friends I did have now live in the UK. Im just at a total loss to know what to do. It just feels like a big circle because I cant even book short term rental until I know exactly what dates we are going, and I need to book our flights to know that.

How soon are you leaving? I am in the same boat as you, as I have started the process of getting my cats ready, but are still waiting on my husbands Visa.

I told them I will let them know the address but we are hoping to leave in October so still a long time away.

If you are going soon, best you book a pet friendly AirBnb and give them that address.

Nobody knows their future Australian address or phone number before they go to Australia, but thousands before you have managed to book a flight. So deep breathe because this is perfectly doable.

My siggestion is to just ask Petair what people do in your situation. Otherwise, well you have booked some arrival accommodatin haven't you? - so there is your address, you could use the accommodation phone number too. Or use your current mobile phone with +44 in front of your number. Phones do work in Australia, many people are going to bring their phone with them and maybe use it for first day or two before they get round to changing it.

Not leaving till November, so a while away, but I just want to get our flights booked while the price is good, but I feel I cant book ours until I know whether the shipper can book them in. I know I am probably worrying unnecessarily, I think I will just book ours and hope for the best with the dogs.

Havent booked accommodation yet, as havent booked our flights yet, and havent done that as I wasnt sure if the dogs had to have flights booked first due to the fact they have to leave same day as us. Not going till November and youre right I am probably overthinking the whole thing. Good point about the mobile, I will put that down and get some accommodation and our flights booked, will just cross fingers for the dogs. Thanks x

I had not realised you were not moving until November. There is absolutely no need to book pet flights yet, just leave it, the transporter will take care of flights and I dont believe booking early makes a jot of difference in a pet flight.

Why do you pets need to move same day as you out if curiousity? It is normal to send them to board for a couple of days so they are out of the way whilst you pack up.

We live 3 hours drive from the airport, and we will be travelling to the airport on the day on a train (should be fun with kids, dogs, and luggage). I wont have a car as mine will be sold by then. I live in a village in the Scottish highlands so not like there is car hire places here, and we dont have a lot of money to pay for a taxi. So we were going to drop them off at the airport with the shipper and then catch our flights. I suppose they could board for a few days if it wasnt too expensive and then could fly a day or two after us. I guess I am also trying to save them too much trauma as they are nervous dogs. Plus I wasnt sure how booked up pet flights get, the shipper hasnt really said whether its an issue or not even though I have asked.

Don't worry! Speak to Petair. put TBC in the box in the online form.

They need to know 8 weeks before you travel.

Thanks, I am looking at short term accommodation now and will use that as an address on the forms when I book it, along with my mobile. I know I probably seem silly, I just over worry.

OMG this is madness. The shippers will collect the pets, or can you not get someone to drop them off a day or two before? Then let the shiper worry about what exact flight they are on.

The shippers said it would cost £195 to collect (that was when it was 1 dog going, not sure if they would charge more for 2), and I dont know anyone here who would do a 6 hour round trip to drop off my dogs. Unfortunately I dont have family in Scotland, and I have only acquaintances here rather than friends as we havent lived here that long. I know its madness but I dont know how else to do it without it costing a fortune. Because we are paying so much for the dogs to go its impacted how much money we are taking and so dont want to spend out on anything if I can help it. Im a single parent and this is my chance of a fresh start without my husband so am having to organise everything on my own - hence the over worrying lol.

Hi Hun,

Just chiming in here ....personally I'd hold off on booking your flights until you have the rabies passed....to quote the Australian Quarantine Rules

"The animal is not eligible for export to Australia until at least one hundred and eighty (180) days have passed from the date that the blood sample is drawn for the RNAT test (with a satisfactory result)."

As we were talking about on the other thread this would be from the date you took your dog back down to the vet as in on the 22nd of April......so as long as your dog passes this time around and is issued a Rnatt by your vet after.... it is 180 days from the date of the blood being drawn....in your case this will be around October 19th at the absolute earliest before your dog could enter Australia.

I absolutely get what you mean about flights and grabbing them at a good price ....however I'd hold off a bit until you know you've got the rabies in the bag so to speak....then you know when the dogs will be able to enter Australia ....once you have that you can base both your flights and theirs after that date. Your vet should get back to you when she has the results ...which normally don#'t take too long to arrive.

Just a suggestion ...not remotely trying to tell you what to do or in what order ...just thought it might help to do it this way and to take a deep breath ...you will sort it out and it will all get done....talk to your pet shipper too they are there to help you through the process

cheers Mary-Anne

Totally see your point, however I have already jumped the gun and booked flights. I saw Emirates tickets at a good price on Saturday and got them, plus found super cheap short term accommodation which was getting booked up by others and I didnt want to miss out. The dogs blood test is on the 13th May (3 weeks after jab, as advised by the pet shipper) so that means if its a pass he can fly from the 10th Nov. If the worst case scenario happens and he cant fly on that date, then they will have to be kenneled for however many days until they can fly. My worry was that leaving later in the month would make it harder to find jobs and a long term rental with Christmas looming nearer. I probably have worried and overthought the whole thing, but as a single parent travelling and everything being put on me to sort out I just want it to be ok. This rabies test being 3 weeks away, and then another 3 weeks for results (due to the fact my vet sends everything via somewhere else) would have meant 6 more weeks of not knowing when we were going, which I couldnt have dealt with.

I love my dogs very much, and they will go to Australia, it just might have to be a bit later if this test fails, plus the shipper will have plenty of notice us booking them this early so hopefully will get a good flight day from them. Regarding address on the forms, I am going to put the short term accommodation I can now book and my mobile number :)

Thanks for your help Mary-Anne x

That's great news that you've got your flights and accommodation sorted ....It's a bit different for me being an Aussie coming home after years of living in the UK ... I haven't had some of those problems as I have Australian addresses and contact numbers all my family is over there so for me it's home ....I didn't realize that you had the option of kenneling them for any extra days if needed before they go. Yes xmas time is very busy, worked for quite a few years in retail in Australia and December /January was always mad ....and also coming in to the Aussie summer...so can see why you'd like to get there that bit earlier.

You are welcome hun am in the last couple of weeks now until my own trip so yep things are starting to get busy...my trio are down to the vets for their last flea tick treatment this saturday, then got the removalists coming next Tuesday, dogs final exams last worming and export health paperwork are being done on the 9th of May....they already have passed their last bloods ....then they fly out 11th via Emirates with me following on the 14th flying Etihad .... but if there's anything I can do to help just give me a shout

cheers Mary-Anne

If you are using @BobPetairUK then he will help you and guide you. Going to the airport with two dogs, kids and luggage on the train is going to be so stressful, it's stress that you don't need. Why not drive the dogs down to the kennels a few days before you sell your car. Although it would probably work out cheaper for Petair to pick them up for you.
