Hi, We are moving to Townsville in April. Can anyone help with where we should live? We have 2 dogs and are planning to rent initially, needing 3 bedrooms for when our sons visit. Ideally we want a sea breeze , dog friendly area. Thanks in advance.

Most people book a short term let or holiday accommodation for the first few weeks. This gives you chance to find your feet and check out suburbs and find, apply for and secure a longer term rental.

For longer term rentals look at realestate.com- rentals - latest lettings and you can also nip into real estate agents and ask what they have coming available (its always good to try and be friend an agent and explain you've just arrived etc)

For shorter term lets ,google holiday home or holiday accommodation and also sites like Stayz .com etc

Hope this helps a bit

Hi @Nicky2402 we currently live in Townsville. Do you have children at school age? If so that may alter the area you live.

If not, I'd look at Pallarenda it's the lowest crime area in Townsville. It's only a small suburb which is on the beach front. Although be warned property is hard to come by.

Other suburbs to look at would be Belgian Gardens and West End. If you aren't bothered about the sea breeze you could look towards Douglas, Annandale etc.

One thing you will find about Townsville is there is no suburb which you should avoid, any crime is equally spread. In regards to dog friendly I would say 80% of Townsville have a dog. So realestate agents 99% of the time accept dogs. Usually realestate agents won't rent to you until you view the property but at the minute there are so many empty properties you may find they work with you. However, I would always advise against renting a property unseen anywhere in Australia. Agents are very good manipulating photos.

If you have any questions on streets or areas just post here and I will try and help.

Hi Nicky,

Welcome to Townsville. When we first arrived we use a local agent that specialised in short term rental until we found what we were looking for - took us 5 weeks. You can book weekly accommodation via the internet http://www.accomtownsville.com.au/ . Realestate.com also has all the listings for property to rent or buy longer term. After the initial search on realestate.com select the option "pet friendly". I have just done a search and there are quite a lot of 3 bedroom houses that are pet friendly. I will check through them and post the ones that I think suit your needs of sea breeze and nice area for dogs. Here is the first one - http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-pallarenda-418119746 right by the beach and you can walk your dogs off lead in Pallarenda.

Numbers 3 and 4 - Castle Hill is a little more expensive but you are guaranteed a sea breeze and usually sea views - lots of people walk their dogs up the hill - 3 http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-castle+hill-410463779 , 4 - not sure about the view on tis one as its on the wrong side of the hill http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-castle+hill-417961462

Ok search complete - that's all I could find with the potential of sea breeze - there are lots available in Bushland Beach which is about half an hour north of Townsville but I have known a few people that have lived there and they have complained about it for various reasons.

Mel has given you some great options there, what I will say is don't bother searching using the pet friendly button as most agents never tick this box when listing. So even though it may not say it's pet friendly the chances are it will be.
