  1. Thanks The Pom Queen, very good advise, I will ensure we check them out in person. Can't wait to get there now, although we are coming out bin stages, Husband first, then dogs, then finally ME!!
  2. Dear Mel Lofts, Thankyou so much for your research - I am glued to the real estate website most nights, and several of those properties didn't show up! It's truly helpful, hopefully one of them will suit us!
  3. Oh great, that has put my mind to rest, a bit. Where would you recommend living in T'ville? We are bringing 2 dogs so need somewhere dog friendly or near a beach, and I definitely need a sea breeze as I find UK hot!!!
  4. Hi, We are moving to Townsville in April. Can anyone help with where we should live? We have 2 dogs and are planning to rent initially, needing 3 bedrooms for when our sons visit. Ideally we want a sea breeze , dog friendly area. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi, How are you finding it? Husband is moving out in april and I'm following on once boys finish A levels. Very mixed feelings about it, so any helpful experiences you can share would be great.
  6. Hi Luke, My husband is moving out in April from Uk, so you definitely won't be the only Pom! He has a friend who's lived there for 5 years and loves the lifestyle. Easy access to Barrier Reef, rainforests Whitsundays etc. I visited in October and was struck by how brown it was, but our friend did say they'd had the driest , wet season that winter, and it's normally a lot greener. Living on the south coast of UK, we rarely take advantage of a ferry terminal to Europe within 20 mins drive, or a trip to London, so I guess we just get caught up in daily living, work etc , so does it really matter that it's so remote? There's always the airport, and if you hate it you can always move back to a city. I'm looking forward to a more stress free, laid back existence, hopefully.
  7. The main hold up for us was my husband having to be approved by APHRA, prior to applying to APHRA he had an interview with RACS in Melbourne that was Oct '15. Once they were happy with his qualifications and experience, he applied to APHRA mid November ( it took about 2 weeks for all his paperwork to arrive in OZ). Once he had approval from them he applied for visa on Dec 7th, we received Visas on Jan 26th and he starts work on May 2nd, leaving here on April 27th. Hope that helps.
  8. We had an email on 8th December acknowledging our application for a 457 Visa and received our visas on 26th Jan , so that took 7 weeks including Christmas and New Year.
  9. Hi, I've just joined this forum and wanted some advice. My husband is considering taking a job in Queensland, he's an ENT surgeon and I currently work in Recovery as a Senior ODP. Does Queensland recognise ODP's? The Medical director in Oz, told my husband that I should apply for a job that matches my skill set and not the job title. Has anyone had any success working in Recovery as an ODP in Oz? Thanks
