suburbs around brisbane

There are too many nice suburbs to list. Where will you be working as they should take priority, trying to commute South Brisbane to North brisbane (or vice versa) on a daily basis can be a pain... Ideally you want to be close to where your work place will be or at least have the option of a few different routes to and from work to avoid traffic jams and accidents.

Your budget will also play a part, realestate.com is great for using as a guide to get rental and purchase prices for different areas.

An hours drive in peak times can be very different to off peak times also

Off peak add the Gold Coast to your list as its easy in an hour

Yeah it's a long drive in peak, even off peak now takes best part of 1.5 hrs to get to the actual beach by car as can be gridlocked at any time. Always find the Sunny coast drive less stressful at weekend.

Wellington Point, Ormiston, Cleveland. All on the trainline to the city, about 50-60 mins drive to the CBD in the morning in rush hour.

There are small beaches in the area. Gold Coast and Sunny Coast beaches easy to get to.

A lot depends on where work is :-)
