Miss Nadine
Hi everyone, I have two very gorgeous Airedale Terriers. One is 10 1/2 years old and the other is 2 1/2. The youngest one has special needs with megaesophagus and I have investigated flying them both to the UK. Unfortunately, after a very long chat with a vet from a transportation company, the answer was that he would not be allowed to fly because he cannot go without water for such a long flight. If he drinks water horizontally, he can choke and either vomit or inhale it into his lungs and risk aspiration pneumonia. I will not leave them behind so I am wondering if anyone has experience of shipping their pets from Oz to the UK or if anyone has any ideas regarding shipping pets on such a long haul. Any idea of costs and companies I should approach. Cheers
Guest
I honestly don't know but the logistics of shipping via boat and land seem huge. The sheer amount of countries you'd have to travel through. The time it would take and the paperwork. Have you considered breaking the trips down into shorter stages so he isn't so long without water? Say 4-5 hour flights with stop offs in between? Having said that, cost wise I really don't know if it would be viable or even something that could be done as most people fly direct. Perhaps have a chat with Bob at Pet Air and see if he can give some suggestions? He deals with UK to elsewhere pet shipping but may have some ideas. VERYSTORMY
There are some of the cruise lines that will take pets. Cunard have in the past. It it would be expensive and you would probably take a 50% segment of a world cruise. Though there are several per year that come through oz and head for Southampton. Spaniels
I recently shipped my 2 dogs from Perth to the UK. My dogs are 11 and 12 and one is blind and they did well (probably slept most of the trip). I can highly recommend the Pet Travel Specialist in Perth. Angus is a Vet himself and he drops the dogs off personally at the airport. I am not sure where you are but mine did fly from Perth to Hong Kong and then on to London.
